Pinnacles National Park is a magical place, and didn't disappoint this time. Very green, although creeks are mostly dry in the lower reaches. Birds singing and flying everywhere. However, the signs of the damage done to the park system by the current federal administration are obvious. The campground pit toilets had not been pumped out for too long and were close to full. Based on the notes from the pumping service, no pumping is scheduled for another week, by which time some units will be unusable. Several of the less popular trails have not been maintained this spring (South Wilderness Trail in particular), which has a dangerous slipout and requires navigating past poison oak growing over the trail.

Very clean, lots of open flat space for tents, tables, games, etc. Nice general store.

Great spot for early season camping. Clean & well maintained facilities.

We liked our campsite (133), but our biggest complaint was that the boundaries were unclear, so the next campgrounds tent seemed to be encroaching on ours, making our site feel quite cramped. Overall, we had a great experience at the campground aside from the family next to us that was loud and disruptive our first night, though thats not the parks fault. We were a bit far from the restrooms, but that meant we were also somewhat removed from the school groups, so it was much quieter where we were. At night there were lots of raccoons at the campground, so definitely be careful with food and toiletries storage.

Pinnacles is an awesome place to hike and take in the abundant wildlife. The condors where on full display while hiking the High Peaks Trail. Also, don't miss the trail that takes you to the caves, then the reservoir. We camped at the campground which is also a great place to watch wildlife and take in the stars. What was also great, is the condition of the the public bathrooms in the campground. They have the cleanest showers and restrooms, hands down. We're already planning our trip for next year. Cant' wait!

Good hiking

The parking lots at the trailheads on the east side (Moses Spring, Bear Gulch and Old Pinnacles) fill up very fast, by 8am, then you have to park in the overflow parking by the campground store and walk in (shuttle buses only run Friday to Sunday). We saw condors on the High Peaks trail close to the junction of the Condor Gulch trail, and also on the Balconies Cliffs Trail. We had four great hikes: the South Wilderness Trail from the campground (out and back, 8 miles), the High Peaks loop counterclockwise (6 miles), Old Pinnacles parking lot to Chaparral parking lot (out and back, 8 miles) and Chalone Peak (out and back 6.5 miles). The Bear Gulch caves are fun and easy, the Balconies caves require flashlights, water shoes are recommended).

The campground was lovely and clean bathrooms with flush toilets a definite plus. Our site (34B) was large and private but lacked shade in the afternoons. The camp store is small but a good stop for a cold drink.

The hiking is amazing! But the restrooms were disgusting. They looked like they were only cleaned weekly and it was spring break when we were there. Lots of people in the park, using the facilities. Outhouses were practically overflowing.

The campground was kept up, bathrooms and showers were clean and the trials were well maintained during our visit. Space #75 in the campground was nice and secluded on one side.

It's a very nice cabin with newish floors, ample porch, windows/screens, 2 adirondack chairs, a bench, a solar-powered fan and two solar powered lights. Lots of interior room as we had a large luggage. Across an empty meadow field from the restroom. The picnic bench was clean and the fire pit had all its parts. The one negative is the cabin is completely not insulated so it was probably 80 inside when we arrived at 3pm, and dropped to 40 at night (bring warm sleeping bags!). The cabin backs into a steepish hillside and I saw people walking up the hill to gather wood but I don't think this is a reliable method. The floor gets very very cold. The sites at this campground are smallish as in you couldn't fit in an extra tent or trailer. The road passes right in front and there are constantly cars driving at night until 10pm, people looking for their sites but seemingly driving in circles. I read about raccoons but we saw no wildlife except quails and bats.

The campground was excellent, very busy but excellent. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and kept everything ship shape.

The campground is so peaceful. The wild life is all around. We loved it

Only drawback was showers, otherwise excellent camping
@Christina25647 · Camped on Apr 6, 2025 at Campsite #30
Plan to get to trailheads very early as parking areas are small. If shuttle is available, use that and carpool as much as possible.
@JudithK6259812 · Camped on Apr 3, 2025 at Campsite #99
Campground is sunny and dry, water readily available near campsite. Sites are close together. Bathrooms far apart and only one shower building.

Bear gulch cave to high peaks trail was very good.
@PhilipM3845838 · Camped on Apr 3, 2025 at Campsite #120
Beautiful park. Nice trails. Got to be up close and personal with the condors which was very cool. Only thing that was not ideal was the campground. I stayed in a group camping area (only thing available) and there was a group of 40+ kids literally screaming and shrieking until 9:30pm. I go to national parks to enjoy nature and it completely ruined the camping experience as there wasnt a single moment of silence. The noise was deafening. Kids will be kids but man there needs to be some rules in place to preserve the peace out there.

I wish the shuttle was working there imwas no parking and no shuttle, so we missed a couple of hikes like bear gulch just couldnt find a spot. We got a ticket one day , but it was worth it to do the hike
@constance82E4F · Camped on Apr 1, 2025 at Campsite #20
We actually saw three condors up off of the high peaks trailThe campgrounds are great and the bathrooms were clean. We were in the section one area closest to the visitor center. Really enjoy the park and we were so lucky that upper visitor center was open and we were able to talk with the naturalist.

We had an amazing trip to Pinnacles. Great hiking. Not much else to do there. Make sure you bring what you need, other than the camp store, there isn't much else out there.
@MichelleL80751 · Camped on Mar 30, 2025 at Campsite #128
Great campsite & location. (Group site 128) - only issue was one side of our picnic table had no seat! Didn't end up needing it since there was a second table.Lots of bold raccoons who venture out at night - make sure to keep food locked away at all times. Turkeys, quail & bunnies all around. Lovely hike on the bench trail right behind groups campsites.
@Alexandra58759 · Camped on Mar 30, 2025 at Campsite #79
Site 79 was a nice, shaded, private site. Saw a raccoon the first evening, which may have been the same one that got INTO our tent the next night! So heads up, they can undo zippers - zip your tent up high, and don't leave any food inside. Luckily, the food boxes are bear-proof, and raccoon-proof. The fire ring & grill were good for cooking on, but not adjustable-height. The closest bathrooms were porta-potties with outdoor temporary sinks - not the best. Good toilets and showers were back by the camp store. Store was great - plenty of food but no milk I could see, fyi. The next nearest store is FAR. We hiked to the Bear Gulch cave which was very cool (and wet!), but had to park far away which added over 2 miles to the hike. Afternoon might be a better time to try. I couldn't tell if the shuttle was running. It was cool during the day, and pretty chilly at night, and it rained the 2nd night. Campsite was pretty well sheltered from the wind. Water faucet was right nearby.

The park is uniquely beautiful with it's many rock formations and the condors. The spring is a lovely time to visit, not to hot, everything is green and there were lots of wildflowers and other bushes in bloom. Our only compliant is the very minimal parking available for the various trail heads. Plan to get there no later than 9 am.
@Elizabeth6A1F9 · Camped on Mar 28, 2025 at Campsite #2
Careful with the raccoons at night. Use the bear boxes to put all your food. Great campgrounds. Lots of bathrooms. They also have free warm water showers!!! They have a convenience store too. The park was amazing to explore with our children

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
