TENT campers BEWARE of Site 26 on Loop 2.We got to this site to find there was literally no where we could set up our (small 2 person backpacking ) tent save for on the asphalt in front of or behind our vehicle. Site 26 appears to be laid out for vehicle camping as there's a stretch of asphalt parallel to the covered picnic table and bench set on a concrete slab but literally not even a patch of dirt to set a tent down on. As we looked for a spot, we were aware other sites around it had adequate space ( some even big enough to accommodate multiple tents) but, unfortunately, not the one we'd reserved (Site 26).When we looked back at the site details on reservation website 26 is definitely not tagged for "vehicle camping only" (in fact, it's "standard" and accommodates 8 people max! I guess this falls under the more general disclaimer for this campground of sites being "small, rocky and not level" ???Other than this unfortunate glitch in our site experience, the Chisos basin area is beautiful!

Great location with incredible wrap-around views of the Chisos Mountains. Some sites are much better than others, in terms of size, shade, cooking, etc.

Great location, beautiful, nice trails, we had an excellent location, beautiful views, flat parking. We did see many spots that would not be very nice to stay in. Ours was great.

Campground was a phenomenal location the views were amazing. Overall accommodations were nice too. Shower situation was not on the campground but about a 30 min drive, but overall a great experience!

Beautiful campground with great mountain views. Clean bathrooms with potable water. Generally quiet and dark by 8pm. Full moon and star views were great. Our campsite 021 was slightly elevated and got a little windy at night, but it was surprisingly private and its one of the few sites with a dedicated parking spot.

Campsite was very small and rocky, with no shade or shelter from wind (it was very windy overnight). Facilities were very dated and overused. The basin itself is beautiful, and this site had easy access to the Window Trail (significantly shorter distance and less elevation than hiking from the lodge).

Great camp spot.
@MatthewW543034 · Camped on Mar 2, 2026 at Campsite #2
This spot is incredibly sloped. Multiple sets of levelers required. While the CG is scenic with hikes in close proximity, its absolutely bustling. Meh.

The camp hosts when we were there were great! Thank you!

As with our stay at Rio Grand Village, everything was just fine. Neat, clean and in order. We very much enjoyed the access to the variety trailheads close to the campground, we hiked them all! Only disappointment, and somewhat minor was our spot Loop 1 site 005. The site details in the reservation system said the site was narrow, which we were fine with since we have a single real wheel truck camper, so we fit almost anywhere. What we didn't realize nor could tell from the pics, is the site is a roadside shoulder site. You are parked half on the road and half on the shoulder. Not a biggie for us but things for others to consider, no way would a trailer fit in this site and nowhere to part the tow vehicle. Also this site has no place to pitch a tent. It does have a covered table down a small embankment which was fine. Our stay was very nice we enjoyed the campground and would certainly stay again but not in 005.

Just an incredible experience. Campsite #30 is legendary. The whole campsite being right in the middle of the Chisos is magical but campsite #30 stands above many. Several spots are just in the open with relatively little or no privacy. This is a little oasis tucked in a corner that provides you with shade under a big tree and a wonderful spot to set up camp. Loved our time there!

Love Chisos Basin!!The campground and Big Bend is absolutely beautiful!! The hiking in big bend is fantastic!! Some of the best hikes are Lost Mine, Emory Peak, South Rim, Pine Canyon, Chimneys and Santa Elena. We love it so much here we have been making annual trips here for the past 5 years!!

Great initiation to the Park by Ranger Simon on the Window trail. The rangers are sooooo good and interesting. We made Lost mine trail and the Maxwell scenic drive as well as the Santa Elena canyon, all from the Chisos campground We also visited the fossil exhibit as we entered this one of a kind park.

An absolute gem of the natural world. So grateful to have this resource in TX, and I hope it continues to survive & thrive without walls or other destruction. Thank you Big Bend for a truly magical & heart-opening experience!

I was able to reserve three nights at Chisos Basin Campground, each at a different campsite. Totally worth it to be in this amazing national park. The daily moves were easy in our van and it enabled us to be in this stunningly beautiful campground. We had vault toilets and potable water spigots near our sites and there is a potable water tank fill hose at the dump station in the loop. We deliberately kept our fresh and gray water tanks at low capacity in order to lighten up the van for our daily trips in and out of the campground. The road into the campground is about 4 miles of steep and curvy driving. Use lower gears for the climb and descent. And have a great time!

Our visit was short and sweet. We spent one night and left in the dark to climb the nearby trail to see the amazing sunrise. All good.

Very nice campground, clean toilet spaces, great proximity to visitor center area and all major trails in Chisos Basin.

Campground sites are close together, but easy to access. The campground ground has several hikes to access without driving. I also appreciated the limited generator use and no light policy. My stay was quiet, peaceful and the stars were great.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
