Camping at Chisos Basin was great. Awesome views all day long. Cool at night. No cell service at campsite. Very spacious campsite, fit four tents comfortably and lots of room to spare.

Surprising excellent Verizon coverage. Was able to stream the Super Bowl. Challenging campground though. Very hilly and not many sites suitable for even a small rv.

The Rio Grande river was dried up. This was very sad and alarming.

Campsite was in a beautiful location with great views, and I even had a shelter, which was a bonus. Not having showers at the campground is kind of a big deal. It really limited the number of days I could stay there.

Our campsite was quite sloped which is a nuisance when you want your sink or shower to drain. And no, we don't carry leveling blocks because we very rarely need them. The location was very nice and I appreciated the very dark sky at night. While there is adequate running water for many uses, filling an RV fresh water tank is not permitted at this campground. Had we known this, we would have filled up the night before at the Rio Grande campground. It's kind of an expectation that when there's a dump station and running water that you can fill your tank. We would return to this campground in the future, but we would better know what to expect and be better prepared.

It would have been nice to know ahead of time that the restroom nearest to our campsite would be closed for renovation. Otherwise, the park staff was very helpful and the cleanliness of the facilities and park was outstanding.

Love Big Bend. We had an exceptional site at Chisos Basin, #52. Hope to get it again. We're excited to use Croton Springs as our camping spot in the future.

What an awesome stay! The park is absolutely beautiful, and the facilities were great as well. The campsites were well-kept, spacious, and beautiful. The bathroom facilities were well-maintained and easily accessible. Chisos is tucked away in the mountain area of the park, and the drive to get to the campground has some amazing views. The Chisos visitor center and store is about a 2-minute drive from the campground, and it is very well stocked. I can't say enough good things about our time there. Every staff member and volunteer that we encountered was very helpful and friendly, making our stay at the park a joy.

Beautiful campground setting! Can get cold early November. Great star viewing. It is at the end of a steep winding road.

Whats not to like? The hikes were amazing, the views were epic, and the campgrounds are clean and quiet.

The Chisos Basin was a peaceful summer sojourn for our family. We stayed 4 nights and were able to take in multiple hikes, day trips to other parts of the park, and Terlingua. If you have the gumption and are fit take the South Rim hike -you will. It regret it! We went at the end of July and the temps were perfect. Highs mid 80’s and low’s upper 50’s. Excellent camping weather.
The park rangers and staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging. The camp grounds were clean, quiet, and organized. Overall we had an amazing adventure and can not wait to come back again!

Note: 1. No showers anywhere in the park. With temps in desert >105 that’s not good! 2. Reservation system doesn’t have provisions for filling no show people in cooler mountains. With patrons camping in>105 temps in Rio grande village this is unacceptable. 3. To confine Covid, 1/3 of camp ground is closed forcing the remaining patrons into close campsites squeezed together. Not good for infection control. 4. The park personnel were under staffed. Restrooms were not cleaned once during our 3 night stay. 5. The trash containers both recycle able and regular trash were filled to capacity. 5. Parking for lost mine trail was so limited that in order to find a parking place we had to be at the parking lot before sunrise. It’s hard to enjoy the park without hiking the trails. Wife was handicapped due to pending hip surgery but only had eindowvyrail view and lost mine peak trail which was usually packed full. 6. Visits to the Mexican village (Boquillas) was restricted. This restriction was not well publicized. We brought our passports for no reason. 7. There were very few picnic spots that had any shade provisions. All of those were filled by patrons during our visits. 8. It would have been nice to have had any indoor seating anywhere in the park. At least Rio grande park and panther junction had outside seating in the shade next to the facility. 9. Park host George was absolutely super and most helpful to guests. Even went out of his way to secure a camping spot in the mountains for a pregnant lady and her husband. Kudos to him and his efforts despite the inadequacies in the reservation system. 10. It would have enhanced our visit to have been able to picnic any of the sonic overlooks. All the overlooks offered no tables nor shade! There was no provisions for people to obtain food after hours. We found ourselves providing showers to strangers in our solar water showers, and feeding late arrivers to the park. Not acceptable.

Small pad, but large site with covered table. Nice experience. Perfect spot for the Windows Trail.
