Campsite was very small and rocky, with no shade or shelter from wind (it was very windy overnight). Facilities were very dated and overused. The basin itself is beautiful, and this site had easy access to the Window Trail (significantly shorter distance and less elevation than hiking from the lodge).

Good campground. Sites are kind of packed together. Close to the trailhead and excellent night skies. Strong winds and hard soil so bring good stakes.

Excellent access to hiking trails from the campground. Good to have bear bins, but they were a bit closer to the campsites than I would've preferred.

Loved it but had a campground incident at 5:30 am one morning with 2 women who were talking very loud and woke everyone up. We attended the coffee with a ranger program and loved it. Very informative about recycling and the park. So great to hear about all that is happening and future steps to address these issues.

Gorgeous location. Campsites are a bit packed tight together, it can feel like everyone is in someone else's site, otherwise it's nice.

Wow, great experience. The campsite 51 was private, clean, and beautiful. There are steps to go up to get to it, so just be aware of that. It can get really windy, so if you are not in the campsite lower your tents. It was 30 mph with gusts up to 55 when we were there. Our tents stayed, but there were alot that did not stay up while people were gone hiking. This campground is friendly, clean, and absolutely wonderful. There are no showers or water in the sites, so be prepared. Bathrooms are clean and have electricity, and there is use of a utility sink for dishes as well. IF you leave food out critters, bees, ect will come So keep your area clean. We had a great time hiking in the area. Ages 14-53.

Great location. Went in mid-November and you definitely prepare for cold nights be the weather is perfect for hiking! The camping site was huge and had large picnic tables. Please clean out the bear locker when you leave your campsite. We had to throw out the former residents decomposing fish from the locker. Not a huge deal, and the views completely made us forget!

The Chisos Basin campground is an excellent place to camp within the National park. The weather is cooler than the other campgrounds and popular hiking trails are close by. Campsite #55 offers some privacy from the road and surrounding sites but requires climbing up some steps from the parking spot. There isn't any shade so you'll have to bring your own canopy. A tree near the parking is a good spot for a camping shower. The Widow trail head is located near the site so all you need to do is leave from your campsite. Make sure to hit the trail no later than 9:00 am as the sun gets rather hot on the way back. The trail starts out going down on the way there so it is all up hill on the way back. Make sure to take plenty of water(double of what you think is enough)! The Basin Loop and the Window View trail heads are located at the Chisos Mountain Lodge and are worth exploring. The Lost Mine trail is a short drive and offers beautiful scenery. As long as you're on the trail by 9:00am there is plenty of shade on the way up. Make sure to buy Gatorade at the Lodge store to take on your hikes! The campsite is quite by the evening since most people are out hiking all day and are tired. The stars fill the night skyline and are relaxing to gaze at. The campground host (Jeff & Kim) are very nice and extremely helpful toward guests. They are willing to provide valuable information about hiking, wildlife and the surrounding area.

The campsite is very convenient to many of the best hiking trails in the park. You should note that the only place to get a shower in the park is at Rio Grande Village (30-40 mins away) and that no campfires are permitted anywhere in the park. We had a good 2-night visit and the campsite was clean and comfortable for our two small tents.

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
