Chisos Basin is a beautiful area and wonderful campsite. Camp hosts and other volunteers were amazing. We only did the basin loop trail (great views) but we wished we had had more time!

This place is heavenly and alien all at once. This campground is a national treasure and should stay that way. If you have a chance once in your life to camp in Chisos Basin, please do so.

The basin is surreal, but the campsites are close together. There was a crying young child near us which wasnt wonderful. Theres a nice amphitheater, but not enough Ranger led talks. We heard that 5 staff members were let go, just before we got to camp. The camp store closed at 4:30, which is not very convenient but understandable. I looked for a Donation box but didnt not find one. The toilet buildings are bare bones, with no showers, but nice to have flush toilets, and running water, which was not available in most tent camping sites. The lodge is currently scheduled for demolition, and the only road up to the Basin will be closed to all visitors for at least two years starting this July. So, if youre planning to visit, you better get there SOON . The night sky was miraculous, we were able to see 7 planets!

The night sky is absolutely amazing!

Sites are too close together. I had no shade. People ran motors at nite.

The camp host was amazing. I was only able to get 3 separate campsites for my 3 day stay. He was able to move me to a single spot for all 3 days. This was my 6th trip and I finally got to see a momma bear and her cub.

The good. Really nice campground in a great location with fantasitc views. The Meh. No showers, sites not real level but the campgrounds on a hill so it is what it is. As a heads up the store doesn't have much in the way of fresh food.

Starry skies, great views, wonderful experience!

Campground is a little tightly spaced, but plenty of room for a tent. Good to have a place devoid of whale-sized RVs

Number 14 is not level at all.

Beautiful place. Add a few more days to your trip - there is much to see and do.

the Park was great, the campsites are just a little too close together , but overall we had a terrific weekend

Camping in the Basin is an experience not to be missed at Big Bend (even if the sites are not level, which I understand is not possible in the terrain; nice that you warn people about that on the reservations website). The hiking trails are great. The restaurant was surprisingly good, given our less than wonderful dining experiences at other national parks.

We were there 7 days and the campsites were quiet and well kept, the bathrooms were clean, despite the sites being primitive there were enough water spigots and toilets to have everything we needed. There is even a wash up room behind the bathrooms to rinse dishes (while respecting the request to use minimal water). Will definitely be back!!! We brought a pop up canopy since our site didn’t have a sun shelter

The park is amazing and the backcountry site was perfect. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is the sites in the front country sites were very close together unlike most national parks where I have camped, but the campground was quiet and clean and my “neighbors” were very nice.

We absolutely love staying at this campground! Beautiful views of the window and views everywhere you turn. Its nice to have the bear boxes and neighbors close by. The camp hosts were so kind. There is no where like Big Bend. Absolutely gorgeous.

Great central camping location to hit all the major trails. Bear siting each day so follow the Park Rangers instructions. Due to recent rains the whole area was abnormally green & the earlier fires were almost unnoticeable. Local site store is a big bonus.

I wish I was there right now.

My experience in Chisos Basin was excellent, everything was cleaned, save, I'm planning to back soon, I recomend this place 100%
@DennisS759 · Camped on Jul 30, 2021 at Campsite #28
I scratch my head as to why their one way direction is backwards. All the sites would be conducive for backing in from the opposite direction of the one way signs. Also it would aid in the dump station's usage. This would work if the one ways went the opposite. Other than that, all was good. Nice area. We enjoyed the auto tours.

We were booked at site 28 in Chisos Basin. Never book this campsite. It isn't hardly even a campsite. There is no cover. There is an aluminum picnic table, a bear box and a parking space. Your tent is on the dirt and it's not even a prepared site for a tent. You can spit and hit about 4 other campsite. People are constantly walking through on the way to the bathroom and you will be able to hear all your neighbors snoring. We decided not to stay our second night after our first sleepless night and it's a good thing because there was a tent set up not 10 yard from our tent when we got back. There are no closed campsites in this area, every single one was full and people are stacked in like cord wood. It is very frustrating and disappointing. The area is beautiful. I would recommend finding a backcountry site.

Even though we had to leave because of the insane snow storm, Chisos Basin campground was excellent. It was very easy to find our campsite, the area was clear for our tents, and the provided grill and bear box were helpful. Trails were well maintained and park rangers were extremely knowledgeable.
@WoodyG758 · Camped on Dec 26, 2020 at Campsite #28
Positives. This campground has stunning views of the valley and you can hike several amazing day trips directly from the campground. Some of the spots were closed due to the covid. If you can get the bottom spots they are great. Otherwise this campground is super cramped. Often five spots crammed into one. Some spots barely have enough room to pitch a tent. You’ll have to negotiate with your neighbors where to share the limited space. Some of the outer sites have much more space.

I still cannot believe my first time camping ever was at Big bend NP in the Chisos Basin. Absolutely blown away with the spectacular campsite views, kind park rangers and the park itself. Not until I got more into camping did I realize how not private my spot was. I was in Loop 2 site 28. You are in a cluster with three other people and can hear them move around at night. I will be honest I wasn't bothered, since I was dead tired at night. However, if you're someone who enjoys the close neighbor's its a good fit, but if you're someone who wants privacy I'd suggest against it.
