This campground is wondefully situated in a caldera; surrounded by mountains on all sides. It would be hard to find a better place to pitch your tent. Ground hard, come with a plan on how to get you tent pegs all the way in, as it gets very windy with next to no notice. Equally, a barrier of any kind, an old sleep mat, cardboard, doubled blanket, etc., between tent footprint and tent will increase comfort in the tent. Enjoy this magical place.

Loved our stay at Chisos Basin campground. Only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is the bathroom is in need of some repairs (one sink wasnt working) but since they close for 2 years in one month, seems like they are letting things pass. We stayed in site 41 in my 19 ft campervan. We fit but I wouldnt want any longer of a vehicle. View is amazing and the camp host is awesome. Be sure to do the window trail and lost mine trail since both are nearby. Cant wait to go back in 2 years and see the improvements.

All the information I was sent helped set me up for a successful trip. We really enjoyed the whole park and the campgrounds where not loud and disruptive.

We found our campsite very nice It was on the edge of the campground so we looked at the dry creek and mountains not other campers. We still had people around us but not where we were looking . We were also close to the restrooms so that was a plus. We had a picnic table but no cover, we really did not need one because it was not hot like the summer months. The park host was very helpful in any way they could help.

We specially selected our campsite based on the criteria that we put into the app. We have an 18' camper and selected the site on the application based on its description as a site that would accommodate a 20' RV or smaller. When we arrived at the site it was immediately apparent that the site was not at all for RV camping but for tent camping, as was the site we had selected for following night (based on availability we knew we had to move during stay) and was not at all possible to camp via RV.THANK GOD FOR MARK, the greatest camp host ever! Mark saw us struggling to try to figure out the situation and was able to help maneuver a solution to make it work. He was AWESOME!We love Big Bend and we have tent camped and stayed there multiple times. Because of Mark the trip was rescued! But Rec.gov needs to revisit the classification of these sites as many of the ones that state they are RV accommodating are not. Also, national parks really need to up their game and include shower facilities in the restrooms. Every State park in Texas includes them but not at the National parks. Just my two cents.

The bathrooms at this campground were always clean and well maintained. Only wish there were showers! We went at the end of May and while the days were awfully hot, the evenings cooled off and it was comfortable to sleep in our tent. The ground was extremely rocky where we had to set up our tent and we had no shade but some other sites did have metal pergolas over their metal picnic tables. Driving back to our campsite in the evening proved eventful. One night we saw a Mexican black bear crossing the road and the next night we saw a bobcat. Both were 2 miles away from the campsite. Our meal at Chisos Mountains Lodge wasn't very good and I chose the lunch meat we brought with us over finishing my leftovers.

Fantastic location. Only negative is that our site was not at all level, making it challenging with our MB Sprinter.

Excellent small campsites with such beautiful surroundings. I look forward to returning. A bit colder and rainier at night up in the mountains during late January than we could quite predict on a weather app, but it is a gorgeous place to land after a day exploring. Easy to take the Windows Trail from this campground after breakfast and to walk up to the lodge for other trailheads. Also a quick drive over to the Lost Mine Trail for the hike before sun up--which I plan on doing again and again (the parking lot was actually empty at 6:30am on a Wednesday morning after a rainy night)! That hike is always a stunner and I saw many folks on it just behind me on my way down! Some of them I ran into in the hot springs later that day...

We stayed at Chisos Basin in site #41 the first night with a 15 foot trailer and we barely fit. We moved to Chisos Basin site #26 for the second and third nights and it was a very good site.

Beautiful campsite. Quiet, but also very close to the bathroom and visitor center to start most of the hikes in the Chisos Basin area.

Chisos Basin is one of the most beautiful campsites we've ever stayed at - encircled by truly awesome views and mountain features (iconic Casa Grande Peak to the east, the dramatic notch leading to The Window to the west, etc.) and a fascinating high-elevation forest environment that's in sharp contrast to the Chihuahuan desert climate below. Campground bathrooms are ample and clean. Chisos Mountains Lodge restaurant and camp store are in convenient walking distance if you don't want to prepare your own food. Choose a site on the outside of the ring for most privacy - though be aware that nearby trailhead parking and Lodge traffic makes the Chisos Basin area feel more "populated" than the 2 other BBNP campgrounds may seem. This is not a bad thing, just something to be aware of - camping at Chisos Basin feels like being part of a funky high-elevation sleep-away camp community, vs. something remote. We loved it and will definitely visit again. (Now if only BBNP could do something about those snoring campers... ;-)

Our trip exceeded expectations. Scenery and hikes were excellent. Weather was great, even in the middle of August. Star gazing was fantastic as well. The park rangers were first class and very proactive. Given the increase in bear activity, they were especially diligent in checking up on the visitors and handled each encounter with incredible skill. We are coming back first chance we are able.
