incredible campsite - bad timing with the water issue, but very well kept site with everything you could need

Nice campground with great access to trails. Many of the sites are not very level, but 58 was good and on a private loop with great views. We did not use the table which was up some steep steps but set up chairs next to our RV.

Big Bend is an amazing park and staying in Chisos Basin is my favorite spot. The Lost Mine Trail, Window Trail, and Emory Peak are all great day hikes. If you are more adventurous, I highly recommend trying a one-night or longer backpacking trip in the Chisos Mountains. If I could change one thing about the park, I think Chisos Basin could benefit from some golf cart-style shuttles like at airports or Disney World from the lodge parking lot to the Lost Mine trail every 15 or 30 minutes, during the peak season of course and frequency should depend on what is economically feasible and actually used by guests.

We loved this site! Youre right at the base of the mountains and the sites are fairly spaced out. I will say some of the listings are incorrect if they have a driveway or not, but we got lucky and were able to book a different site than our original one. Its Cole and windy in January but not too crowded. Highly recommend Emory Peak, just pay attention to the path you take up so you can go down the same way (at the rock scramble at the end). The campsite was amazing, so close to some of the best trailheads and our specific spot had great privacy. Emory peak was a relatively tough but rewarding hike. The sky at night was incredibly beautiful and you HAVE to go to the hot springs!! There are also some great places to off-road!

Quite the climb to get to the campsite area. Great views of the entire mountain landscape but it is tough to get up the rocky area to the campsite, especially in the middle of the night.

The tent area requires to step over 3 rocks - no shaded area though; parking area is paved and leveled for the most part (a VERY SLIGHT incline but unnoticeable). This campsite is along one corner of the campground so you are directly next to two neighbors. The walk to the heated restrooms is approximately 2 minutes and is on the way to the Window Trail. Nice campsite overall.

The campground host, Mark, was so friendly and accommodating. He worked with us to get us to stay in the same site for 4 nights. He was truly caring and compassionate about his job as a volunteer.

Centrally located and quiet. Be cautious at the RV dump. The RV dump / water refill is in a one-way road that positions the RV on the wrong side for dumping. The fresh water refill is painfully slow. The fresh water and non-potable water supplies have non-threaded ends.

I've been camping in Big Bend for over 50 years and have done a lot of hiking. I also like Glacier, Yosemite, and the parks in the Canadian rockies. You have to learn Big Bend through experience. If you like to stay close to your car, other parks are a better experience. Hiking in Big Bend is different because it is mostly desert. I like that because of the depth of view on the trail.Sadly, much of Big Bend has been marred by various factors. The natural grotto at the bottom of Cat Tail Falls was a pleasant discovery on a hot summer day 50+ years ago. Now it is gone. A big factor is the added development in the Chisos Basin that put a bigger demand on the water that would have gone over the falls. And Santa Elena Canyon is nothing like it used to be because of increased Rio Grand water consumption upstream. Maybe worst of all is the view from the South Rim. I remember sitting there and being able to see 150 miles into Mexico. Now you need a good day to see much beyond the Rio Grand. Much of the reason is smog from coal power plants in Mexico. Still, I keep coming back. Perhaps because it was my first love of places to be outdoors. If you are reading this, you will likely never see it like us old timers did.

Beautiful area, but terrible campground. Good location for exploring the Chisos Basin, but campsites are very crowded together. Too many sites for the space. We had # 58 and it had a nice view, but jammed with 3 other sites in a space for 2. Our table and bearbox were actually up above us on a small ledge that required climbing over boulders to get to. Very strange layout.

Very nice camping. Be sure to read site description paying attention to length and site level. Especially if in a RV since some sites are very uneven.

We lucked out & got a flat parking spot, which we need for a campervan. After seeing some of the sites, it would be nice if the reservation website included that as a search criterion. There are some camp sites that e couldn’t have stayed in. Nice campground, quiet (yay, no generators), restrooms were clean enough, loved the area.
We were very lucky to get site #58 in the basin for our 22 foot van because many of the sites are not level. The bathrooms were ok but had some issues but overall if you can get here we highly recommend this campground.

One of the prettiest campgrounds and campsites I've ever stayed at in a National Park. Incredibly clear skies, great sites and a great vibe. Sites are - as stated - a little uneven and someone gravely, but with a good sleeping pad, I slept like a kitten. Was lucky enough to open my tent flap and watch the Geminid meteor shower from the cozy comfort of my sleeping bag, too.
Location itself is stunning. Sites are really hit or miss — some don’t have room to park off the roadway, others don’t have shelters. None are that big, and they are all very close together. You WILL get to know your neighbors.

We missed the first night and the second night we stayed in 58 which is a climbing hike when it's dark. but it's was a cool stay, very rocky🪨, We stayed in 51 which was way better but the names were switched good thing We had the email up, water was good, and the restroom was clean, the drive needed more side road markers getting closer to camp, feels like the picnic table was too close to the grill but overall a great experience We should be back next year
We spent two nights in site # 58 in Chisos Basin. It was a wonderful experience with beautiful views, quiet neighbors, super-clean bathrooms, and friendly staff. Hiking was great with the Window Trailhead right at the campground, and the Lost Mine trail just up the road. The late-October weather was perfect, with a surprise thunderstorm one evening to make things even more exciting. Big Bend National Park is a great park experience with beautiful mountain and desert scenery, deep canyons, and hiking opportunities for all levels. We wish that the Boquillas Canyon crossing was open, but this is still closed even though the park newsletter reads that it is open.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
