This is a fantastic campground if you know what to expect. The sites are well maintained and pretty large. The scenery surrounding the campground is incredible, and some of the best trails in the park start from just a few minutes away. You can stargaze directly from the campground (I recommend bringing a headlamp with a red light). There is a lodge (with a restaurant), camp store, and visitor center just up the road. I also had no issues with excessive noise or light from neighbors when I was there, the campground is not particularly large and the narrow winding road to the campground blocks larger RVs, both of which help. There are some things to know about camping here: there are no showers, the nearest are in Rio Grande Village ~1hr drive away. The ground is hard and rocky so you may have trouble with tent stakes, I was able to find a good enough spot quickly enough. It can be quite windy at times, consider a low profile tent (or at least make sure youre staked in really well!) and make sure to close it up as much as possible to keep sand out. Some sites have little shade, but its manageable with appropriate clothing.Overall this is an excellent campground and I highly recommend it, with just a bit of planning and prep I had a great camping experiences ever here Chisos Basin.

Chisos campsites are closely spaced. Back country sites are beautiful and widely spaced. No-show bookings is a problem. Need some incentive/penalty.

Campsites are tight if you have a big tent. Night time star gazing was fantastic.

Good campground. A bit crowded. They should add showers.

Passport cancellation stations are in the visitor center, not the store. Potable water is provided outside the restrooms. It can get windy up in the Chisos so make sure you have wind protection if you are using a camp stove. Definitely do the Window View and Lost Mine trails!

What an amazing place. We stayed at the lodge for the first night, then camped in Chisos Basin for the next 4 nights. The scenery was spectacular. We started by hiking in the Chisos Basin where the views were awesome. Then we did some hikes in the south east, and finally in the south west. The scenery and hikes were incredibly diverse and beautiful. In all, one of the best places I’ve ever visited, and I’ve been to quite a few in the US and in the rest of the world.

Chisos Basin is an outstanding location in Big Bend. Tent sites are tight, sometimes unlevel, on hard ground with plenty of rocks. Bring tent nails. Sites with shade structures are limited. You will hear your neighbors at night, even if they are just talking. No showers and no privacy for use of solar showers. Drinking water faucets convenient and water tastes great.

Majestic beauty unlike anything I've ever seen!

The camp ground bathrooms were very well maintained and our site was very nice! Views from anywhere in the basin were breath taking. We did the window trail and summited Emory Peak. The window was incredible! Emory was a longer hike but so worth it! Cannot wait to come back!

Nice campground, great access to hiking trails. Just wish the ranger led night skies programs would've been available.

Beautiful location but the blocking of the access road for construction made it difficult to use the campground as a base for visiting the rest of the park. In addition, the closure of many of the trails accessible from the campground (due to the recent fire) further compromised the utility of the campground. Perhaps the park should have delayed construction while the local trails remain closed to give campers some more options.
