Loved this campground. Beautiful location, with mountains surrounding us. Nice campsites, and we had a sheltered table, which provided much needed shade. It was quite windy the day we arrived, so it was challenging to pitch the tent. The next day was calmer. The site also had a sturdy food storage box. The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive was awesome, and easy to get to from Chisos. We had a great time here.

Enjoyed the views and camping. Wish there were more flat Camper Van sites.

One of the most beautifully hidden campgrounds I have been to, clean modern restrooms, ample parking, and some of the best stars at a campground I have seen. The lodge and store are nearby but out of sight, and hiking and travel within the park is easy from this central location. A place I would 100% go back to to experience this remote, but beautiful, location.

Great campsite, fairly flat, cell coverage all but one day, great security, great food at lodge.

Nice, clean campsite with great views of the Chisos Mountains and the starry night sky. It's about a half mile hike up to the lodge, which is where most of the trailheads are. But the amphitheatre is nearby the campground. I enjoyed the evening ranger program.

Sad to hear that the campground will be closed for up to two years, but we understand the need for some serious upgrades. We have been annual visitors for over 40 years.

The panoramic views from this campground are absolutely gorgeous! The grounds and facilities were spotless, and there is easy, convenient access to a few trails right from the campground. Close to the Chisos Basin Visitor Center (including more trailheads) and the Lost Mine Trail. This central location was perfect for travelling to the other sections of the park without having a super long drive (about an hour to Santa Elena and Boquillas Canyons). I absolutely loved my stay and cannot wait to come back!

Great hiking trails from the campground. While our space, #4, was level parking, many are not. Be prepared.

Lovely campground. If you come here during the summer, I highly recommend camping here as it is the coolest area of the park and all the campsites have shaded picnic tables

Magnificent setting. The camp host (Mark) was very helpful. Pay close attention to site size restrictions when reserving, there is little room to fudge on most.

We had an amazing time camping here! Can’t wait to come back. Facilities were super clean and it was great being able to walk to some hikes. Only downside was no fires were allowed and it was pretty cold; however we still had a great time.

Superb location with amazing hikes very nearby. Don't miss the Window and the Lost Mine hikes. But we also really loved Mules Ears hike -- such amazing flora and geology, and not as challenging in terms of elevation gain/loss. The Hot Springs were enjoyable, though a little bit of a party scene with loud music and tamales right across the river. Clean bathroom. Nice friendly helpful campground hosts and rangers. Lovely shade covers and useful animal proof storage units. Appreciated how dark the park is kept to allow for great star gazing. We were a bit frustrated with our site at Chisos, which was not really practical for a camper/RV -- very hard to pull into and get out of. Also bizarre that the dump site requires most campers to go the wrong way down the one way street to use. Why not change the direction of the road? The restaurant was okay -- not as wonderful as many other NP dining experiences, but a nice break from cooking. Overall a fantastic experience in an unforgettable place.

Chisos Basin was incredible with access to all parts of the park and stunning hikes from the campsite. Pay attention to the moon cycle as the full moon washed out some of the stars in the night sky - but the entire experience was wonderful.
Campers in site right next to mine, SCREAMING ALL.DAY.LONG.!!! 3 children and their Dad, yelling and screaming CONSTANTLY! My reservation was for 2 nights. I left after ONE miserable (day and) night. It was TORTURE!!!

Wonderful location with two of the friendliest and most helpful hosts we have ever run across.
Magnificent setting! Nice campsite and a great start to our Big Bend trip. Friendly, informative host who drove around checking campers. Do the Window View Trail and then the Window Trail - great perspective.
Road closures put a damper on the trip. Covid mania nearly ruined the Park experience. Mankind failed again, but Mother Nature came through with flying colors.
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
