We really enjoyed hiking The Window and Lost Mine trails. We were in a 24 ft class B camper van and the camp sites are small and not level. The dump station was fine but there was an issue with the pump so no water was available.

Staff and volunteers were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed hiking the Lone Mountain trail which is a fairly new trail. Santa Elena, Boquillas Canyon and the Lost Mine Trail gave wonderful scenic views and photographic opportunities. I also enjoyed the plants and birds.

Beautiful campground area, very well maintained. Be cautious about moving rocks (moving a rock around 1 foot to anchor supplies got us a slap on the hand) - and even if you have a portable contained pellet/non-wood fire pit, it will not be permitted (we were misinformed that this was not considered a ground fire and got in trouble for that too). These folks were quite feisty and grumpy about rules we didnt even know we were breaking. Im sure they get tired of telling people not to do stuff but it wasnt a warm fuzzy feeling to be treated the way we were when we intended to be compliant in the first place. It was my niece and nephews first time to a national park (they are state park pros!) and were so put off by it they told me they werent sure they ever wanted to go to another national park (eek!) otherwise, STUNNING grounds, quiet and serene, and easy access to trails.

Facilities were clean. The shade provided by the shelter at the site was very welcome. Our site was very close to the bathroom but I was never bothered by any noises in the evening. This campground is close to trailheads for great hikes

I booked a campsite that had a pretty good slant to the parking area. Was planning on sleeping in my truck camper. Host saw this and got me into a more level site. Much appreciated!

004 site loop 1 in Chisos Basin was a pretty good spot, but not level at all. It seemed like a lot of traffic going to other sites. Camp site was next to restrooms and close to water and dump station. We did get permission to pull RV in going opposite to one-way traffic to have RV door facing the campsite.

Loved this campground. Beautiful location, with mountains surrounding us. Nice campsites, and we had a sheltered table, which provided much needed shade. It was quite windy the day we arrived, so it was challenging to pitch the tent. The next day was calmer. The site also had a sturdy food storage box. The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive was awesome, and easy to get to from Chisos. We had a great time here.

One of the most beautifully hidden campgrounds I have been to, clean modern restrooms, ample parking, and some of the best stars at a campground I have seen. The lodge and store are nearby but out of sight, and hiking and travel within the park is easy from this central location. A place I would 100% go back to to experience this remote, but beautiful, location.

Nice, clean campsite with great views of the Chisos Mountains and the starry night sky. It's about a half mile hike up to the lodge, which is where most of the trailheads are. But the amphitheatre is nearby the campground. I enjoyed the evening ranger program.

Sad to hear that the campground will be closed for up to two years, but we understand the need for some serious upgrades. We have been annual visitors for over 40 years.

The panoramic views from this campground are absolutely gorgeous! The grounds and facilities were spotless, and there is easy, convenient access to a few trails right from the campground. Close to the Chisos Basin Visitor Center (including more trailheads) and the Lost Mine Trail. This central location was perfect for travelling to the other sections of the park without having a super long drive (about an hour to Santa Elena and Boquillas Canyons). I absolutely loved my stay and cannot wait to come back!

Great hiking trails from the campground. While our space, #4, was level parking, many are not. Be prepared.

Lovely campground. If you come here during the summer, I highly recommend camping here as it is the coolest area of the park and all the campsites have shaded picnic tables

Magnificent setting. The camp host (Mark) was very helpful. Pay close attention to site size restrictions when reserving, there is little room to fudge on most.

You have a full service restaurant and motel style rooms at $180 plus per night. You restrict campsites to minimal water use and no bathing facilities, nor can you use your own shower system because of runoff of water may attack animals. So a park that generates millions in revenue and soon will be replacing their lodge; cant come up with a shower facility that campers could pay to use, and the water could be recycled/contained? Of course we can drive thirty miles to pay to shower at another location, so thanks for that.

Clean site, great Mountain Views. The neighbors invited me over for dinner since I was camping by myself. Everyone I encountered was very friendly. Hiked the Window Trail in the morning and did Emory Peak in the afternoon. Perfect hiking weather!!
