The grounds are very clean, campsites are nice. No shade - a screen room would be great to provide shade and also keep the bugs out. You definitely need DEET bug spray - the natural stuff really didn't help and we had several different kinds. Mosquitoes are worse at dawn and dusk. The beaches are beautiful and the facilities are good. The beaches are windy so bring sand stakes.

The beaches were fantastic and we really enjoyed the wild horses, kayaking, and biking the island. The rangers were lovely and informative. We will be back, but will try to camp on the beach because the bayside has LOTs of bugs. Thank you!

The campsite #78 is in an area surrounded by bushes. The campsite itself sits in a little dipkind of like a shallow hole or depressionnestled between dunes and thick bushes. It adds to the sense of seclusion and privacy, but theres not a lot of ventilation and it also traps heat and bugs like crazy. That would be a good thing if youre camping in the colder months (not the bug part), but in the hot summer, it feels about 10 degrees hotter in this campsite specifically. Again, all of the flies get trapped in thereand raccoons love that spot. If youre reserving this campsite, make sure all your food and trash are secured.The horses didnt bother us at all. We stayed for a week, and not once did they enter the campsite.The fire pit is super rusted, so I suggest bringing something to place over the grill if you plan on cooking. Also, make sure to bring a wagon with sand wheels, since its a bit of a walk through a sandy area.One big plus: it stormed while we were there, and a lot of the tents out in the open area either got flooded or blown awaybut because we were protected by the bushes, the storm didnt bother us at all.Important tip: the bugs are insane in this campsite #78. More than the rest of park. If youre camping here, especially during summer, I highly recommend bringing a bug zapper to hang up, fly sticky traps, or even better, a screen house to eat and relax in without being swarmed.Also, the ticks were no joke. Definitely spray your gear and clothes with permethrin ahead of time. I know that should be done regardless of where you camp, but something about this sitemaybe the higher concentration of raccoons?made the tick situation feel especially intense.

The flies made our stay a little unpleasant but overall it was fabulous. We saw lots of wildlife and lots of the horses. The view of the bay from the old ferry point was marvelous. We stayed in a bayside campsite. We will try for an ocean side campsite next time and hope that the flies will be less bothersome.

Very peaceful and quiet experience. Funny story we stored a bag of fruit in the box under the picnic table; we secured the latch and felt good about it. The raccoons raided the box and got away with a healthy bounty bag and all! Thats when we discovered that the other end of the box is just a door without a latch. LolWe had a great time. Its a clean, beautiful park with lots of wildlife, especially the horses.

What a great park! Quick check-in, friendly staff, fresh water at the dump station, level sites, and the horses! I will definitely visit this park again and stay longer.

love camping here! only drawback is the flies. definitely bring a screen tent if you want to hang outside! Lovely trails, beach, sunsets, and the ponies!!!!! we usually will camp oceanside for a few days and then bayside for a few. They have different vibes!

We came with 5 people (2 adults, 3 kids ages 9-13) and 2 small dogs. Had an absolutely fantastic time!No cell service at the campsite for either of us (T-Mobile and Verizon). Brought a hot spot that didn't work either.This particular site is right in front of an opening in the fence to walk down to the shore. Our kids really appreciated that easy access. It is one of the sites furthest from the bathrooms, but we didn't find the walk terrible. We loved that you could just carry your fishing gear down to the shore and toss a line in. We also went crabbing every morning to catch our dinner and collected a ton of mussels on the bayside.We did not bring bikes, but wish we did. This area is fantastically set up for biking around to different places, including the little shop on the island. We also plan to bring our canoe next time for some adventure into the bay. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We plan to make this our annual family vacation spot.

We stay at the walk-in sites every year. It's my favorite place on Earth!

We enjoy the island, but this time we had other campers bringing their dog up next to us to do his business. A lot of campers with dogs arent picking up after them.

The bathrooms on Bayside are like gulag cell blocks. I dont have any trouble with cold water showers, but the shower head was ridiculously small with poor flow and you had to push a button EVERY SEVEN SECONDS to keep the water flowing. It was ponderous, to stay the least.On the Oceanside, the showers had large shower heads will a big pull handle to keep the water flowing and while you could maintain privacy, the shower room was open to the outdoors.I also have no trouble with pit toilets, but even the toilet structures were somehow more friendly on Oceanside.I feel like whoever the architect was for the facilities on Bayside had only designed high security prisons previously.On a more positive note, the staff couldnt have been better. They were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Ive camped all over the country and the staff at Assateague is superior to staff at most other National Parks.With all my complaints about the lousy bathrooms on Bayside, except for trash and waste that sometimes accumulated in between cleanings from inconsiderate campers not cleaning up after themselves, the bathrooms were very clean and cleaned regularly.

The campsites on the bay side vary in terms of privacy and views but all are quite nice. The ability to buy a pass to drive on the sand is wonderful! The only criticism i have is that hot water showers should be provided. Showering after a beach visit is necessary, and cold water showers are a shock to the system. Thanks for considering and i do appreciate that there are showers. Acadia does not have any showers.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
