I LOVE Assateague Island. I had to knock off one star due and issue during our last visit. I booked a site for two nights. Prior to our visit I logged into my account to check the details, and noticed that I only booked one evening. Bummer! We wanted to stay for two evenings, so I found a vacant site for the 2nd evening and booked it. I didn't think it wouldn't be a big deal to move from one site to the other. Wrong! We left our site at 10:50am and drove past our new camp site hoping to pull right in. There was a camper, a 2nd car and a mess of gear all over the place. These folks were planning to be there for a while. I knew they wouldn't be out by 12:00. We hopped on our bicycles, and cruised the park while periodically checking on site, hoping it would be empty so we could park and relax. Three hours later and they still hadn't checked out. We located the hosts, who were awesome, and helped us switch to a different, and nicer camp site across the street from our first pick. Later in the evening I overheard the hosts talking to the other guests about their checkout time. The other camper was adamant that he booked the site for two nights. I immediately understood what happened, because I nearly did the same thing. There's only one problem, when you check in, the rangers tell you when you're checking out, and write it in BOLD Sharpie on a bright orange tag you hang from you mirror. It was either an honest mistake, OR the guy was just an inconsiderate jerk. He booked another night, and still failed to leave when they were supposed to! The rangers, staff and camp site hosts seem to have little recourse if someone decides to overstay their visit. They left notes on the windshields of the squatters, but seemed helpless. If the campsite was booked, I'm pretty sure we'd have been out of luck without a campsite. Book early because it sells out fast! This is a truly beautiful place.

It was a little frustrating. I had different sites each night as that was all that was left. They made me come to the visitor center every day for a new tag. Seems like they could figure out how to make a tab for more than one site. Each time I moved it mean I had to drop the top of my camper. moving would have been easy without having to go to the visitor center every day.Bathroom lights were terrible. They need to be replaced so you can see. This was in the bayside portion. The bathrooms were a little in disrepair I think but they cleaned them often.

Great boardwalk trails, excellent shape with beautiful views. Two 60 something’s were able to hit all the trails easily. The horse experience is a must do!
Beautiful park. Nice people staffing the check in office and visitors' booth. Unlike the adjacent state park, the park's restrooms lack flush toilets, sinks, & lighting.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
