Our family had an amazing experience with the oceanside camping at Assateague! Beautiful views, direct beach access, spacious sites, short distance to restrooms/showers, & all around pure outdoor relaxation! We look forward to our next camping trip w/the kiddos!

I had a wonderful time camping at Assateague with my dad and nephew in early April. The facilities were clean, and the boardwalk to the beach was cleared of sand, so my dad was able to navigate to the ocean in his wheelchair. We enjoyed ourselves, as always.

Assateque is always a joy.I was impressed with the new educational nature signage, more wild horse information and better visitor education on how to interact with horses.Camp ground Bathroom situation could be improved.

Despite the ocean not letting me sleep at night, the sunrise and sunsets at the bayside are beyond compare, my wife and I always look forward to camp at Assateague; highly recommend it!

Assateague Island National Seashore is a beautiful and unique destination for camping, and camping on the beach in March offers a one-of-a-kind experience. The first thing to note is that March can be a chilly time of year to camp on the beach, so it's important to come prepared with warm clothing and gear. That being said, the cooler temperatures can also mean fewer crowds and a more peaceful atmosphere. The campsites themselves are located right on the beach, with stunning views of the ocean and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the natural surroundings. The sound of the waves crashing on the shore is a soothing soundtrack to sleep to, and waking up to the sight of the sunrise over the water is truly breathtaking. One of the highlights of camping on Assateague Island is the opportunity to see the wild horses that roam the area. These beautiful creatures are a sight to behold, and it's a unique experience to see them in their natural habitat. In addition to horse watching, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy on the island, such as hiking, biking, fishing, and kayaking. The park also offers ranger-led programs and educational opportunities to learn more about the island's ecosystem and history.Overall, camping on the beach at Assateague Island in March is a unique and unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Just be sure to come prepared for the cooler weather and enjoy all that this beautiful destination has to offer

Hello, this is my story of a two day trip on a whim. Ive always wanted to go to Assateague Island and camp. Well last weekend My son had off from school Monday and Tuesday I decided to call up Assateague Island , I had a few questions about the facilities, and if they were even open for camping .I spoke with emily, one of the employees/rangers on duty She was very knowledgeable and explained the facilities what was open and if there were any campsites available, she referred me to the website where I was able to book a night Oceanside campground coincidentally she was at the entrance, taking park fees I told her hi my name is Ben I spoke with you on the phone she said hello and welcomed me to Assateague Island. my son and I had a wonderful time watching the horses come within feet of the cars we were told to stay away as they are not domesticated. I look forward to coming back soon. Thank you-Ben Moore

We stayed in a 10ftx10ft tent 006, Oceanside Loop 1 May 22-24, 2022. The beach, ocean and campsite were absolutely gorgeous; right on the water. As much as we loved the beach we found the ponies potentially too much to deal with. We observed a group of ponies, a mare with a foal and 2 others wander into a campsite just opposite from us. The mare took whatever was cooking in a fry-pan (I think it was bacon) and eat it right out of the fry-pan and then flung it to the ground. The mare and the other horses also ate the cereal off the picnic table. The people at the campsite could just stand by helplessly. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. As we concluded we might not be able to eat/cook at our campsite due to the horses we decided to leave the next day, 2 days early.

This was our first time tent camping at Assateague Island. We chose the National Seashore campground in November. The weather was crisp but very sunny. The access to the beach was very close to our campsite. We enjoyed riding our bikes on the camp grounds and rode midway over the bridge to take fabulous photos overseeing the water. The highlight of our trip was watching the sunrise over the ocean and watching the sunset. The night sky showed all the spectacular stars. We plan to go back during the summer season to experience actually getting into the water. It was too cold in November to swim. Every one was very friendly and we loved seeing the wild horses walk by. It was truly a wonderful experience. The only thing I disliked was it is very hard to reserve space as it gets booked up very quickly.

Camping at the beach was a very unique and highly recommended experience; Assategue provides a wide variety of activities for nature lovers; loved the the new picnic tables with storage for the coolers; and the wild ponies added a picturesque sight,; I would recommend going there early fall to avoid the bugs!
