The beauty and peace of Assateague is unparalleled. We appreciate the park rangers and staff who work so hard to keep it a friendly and pristine place to enjoy.

I love coming here. This was my third year coming a row. Its a fun tradition to have! NPS has activities Memorial Day through Labor Day. We prefer the grass campsites over the sand ones. This year we got to see dolphins and be out in the water as they swam past us. For the horse if they come to bully you out of your food, remember they are prey animals and you can startle them away from you. Dont let them bully you. Its a pretty good place for star gazing, the only light pollution is ocean city, which is a crazy amount considering. Even when you are like far down the island at the back country sites along the beach.

Absolutely beautiful! This is an experience that is a must. We stayed in the Oceans campsites ( sites 36 and 20) and were visited by the horses both night and day. What a treasure this place is. Would definitely do again. The beach is stunning, did not disappoint!

Good site location. Wild ponies congregated right next to our motorhome. Really cool experience with wildlife. Clean. Well-managed and maintained.

Always a favorite. Assateague's natural beauty and basic setup is perfect for camping or boondocking. As long as we keep our site clear for the horses to stop by we have no issues. This trip we had a horse take a nap on the lee side of our RV!

Assateague Island National Seashore is an absolutely incredible destination! Camping there among the wild horses was a unique and thrilling experience that felt like stepping into a natural paradise. The coastal scenery is stunning, and the opportunity to share this space with such majestic creatures makes it truly unforgettable. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking adventure and tranquility in one extraordinary location!

The island is clean, filled with small and short trees that makes the place feel open. The entrance to the island has an elegant and short bridge. The campsites are clean and it has the essentials. The beach was the best place. It was clean, wide, long, filled with white sand. The sunrise and the sunset was majestic on the beach. Of course, the horses are beautiful and are ready to eat your food! Its a great place to rejuvenate!

This is a beautiful park but it needs some TLC from the NPS. Many RV sites are unusable for RV’s. Picnic tables are totally buried in sand and roads in loop 1 has deep sand on the road. The beaches remain beautiful and the ponies are always magnificent. Potable water faucet at the Oceanside dump station flowed at less than 1 GPM.

Assateaque Island is beautiful and peaceful. We were there in October so the crowds were nonexistent. Warm days and cool nights. I was surprised not to see too many horses. We only saw a few horses the whole time we were there. In the two loops for the campground, there are no hook ups. They have vault toilets and cold water showers available. I would like to see electric and water added to the sites and have a warm shower available.

Make sure you take a flashlight to the bathroom at night. There used to be solar powered lights, but those haven't worked for years. If you will be camping with younger kids, start conditioning them for the cold showers before you go! Read the signs all round about interactions with the horses, they are posted for a reason. My family has been camping here for about 50 years... the stars are amazing and like nothing you have ever seen, turn off the lanterns and just look up. If you are camping with kids, take advantage of the programs offered during your stay. You can find them listed on the website.
