First come, first serve was a fiasco. Not happy with how they handled our situation or their attitude when addressing it.

Had a great time. Weather was good and saw plenty of horses without having to look. Also got to see new colt, approximately 24 hours old. Great neighbors helped us back our, new to us camper, up in the dark. We have been tent camping previously. Also, only saw a few idiots not obeying the rules but rangers were on them pretty quickly.

Camping and being at Assateague Island National Seashore is an annual event and it is always wonderful to be there at that special place. This year, however, was difficult because of two ways the system broke down.
1-Recreation .gov needs to coordinate the bookings so much better with the office of the campground. It is a popular place and was recorded on the computers as being full up when there were spaces available every day that I was there. This is too bad because people want to camp there and are disallowed even with those empty spaces.
2- The campground itself was basically lawless. The campground staff did not enforce the rules and cancel the reservations of people who did not show up or contact the office within twenty-four hours of the arrival date of the booked site. It is known that some people booked two weeks and only showed up for the Labor Day weekend. Meanwhile, the booking which began around ten days before the weekend was not used by them and not cancelled by the camp office. Is it part of the job of the Recreation.gov to police this type of law flouting? Another camper near my campsite bragged that he was finishing up his vacation of SIX WEEKS there. He had got his daughter to book and confirm two weeks by showing up the first day, his son-in-law showing up for another two weeks and he himself showing up for two weeks. Meanwhile, he and his vehicle with that license plate was the one at the campsite for six weeks. He hung a fairly large washline up which was against the rules because the wild horses could do damage to themselves by running through there. Further, he was told several times to take the line down and did not. The office did nothing about it.
I have been a camper there on and off for more than twenty-five years. There have been many different booking systems used there. My favorite is booking a reservation with no campsite assigned. Perhaps the different systems need to be revisited. (F. Fraser-Smith )

Wear sun protective clothing and pray to whatever god(s) you worship to spite the hellish demons that reside on this island (killer mosquitoes and horse flies) Otherwise have fun! Still a great weekend :)

Coming to Assateague Island National Seashore is like a retreat away from the craziness of this past 1-1/2 years. Walk the beautiful beaches, listen to the ocean waves at night, ride your bikes without worrying about traffic, catch the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, enjoy the magnificence of the starts in a pitch black sky at night. Our annual trip to Assateague was cancelled last year, and this year we looked forward to it more than ever. Oh, and I didn't even mention the ponies of Assateague! We never get tired of watching them, photographing them, and witnessing their interactions with the other ponies. This year we were fortunate enough to see the new baby of one of the horses, one day old, walking all over the campgrounds. Don't change a thing, the island belongs to the horses, let the people appreciate all that nature has to offer us.

First time visiting in March. Typically visit in the Summer. Weather was less than ideal, windy and rainy, but still walked the beach and combed for shells. Walked the three nature trails, saw a few ponies, and toured the town of Berlin. Visited Sunset Marina and ate at Mother’s Cantina and Liquid Assets. Perfect getaway to relax, unplug, and recharge from work stresses and be near the beach. Love this island.
