We spent 2 nights in the Bayside campground...short walk to beautiful sunsets. Facilities were clean. Stayed in B loop which offered a little more privacy than the other two loops but overall very impressed with the campground. Will return.... and the ponies didn't disappoint us with multiple visits while we were there.

Had a great time at the camp ground. The rangers were super helpful. The horses were super cute.

The park is beautiful, of course. I wanted to put out a warning about the showers. The bathhouses are not heated. There is a screened window that lets in the winds coming off the water. The showers only have cold water. Since I knew we were camping without hook-ups I expected to be able to use the bathhouses for showering; that was not possible in March. The pull-through design is unlike any I have ever seen. There is a small curved turnout section of road that you park your RV on. The site pictures show a grassy site but not the odd configuration you have to park on. The curve presents a challenge for larger units. Next time I'll take a back-in site where you are closer to the open lot. Section B is no generators but there are other sections that allow them.

Beautiful nature but mind the mosquitoes. They attacked us from the first moment despite bug spray.

While the wildlife and landscape were beautiful, we were swarmed with biting flies from the moment we tried to set up camp. We came home, after one night, with more than 80 bites per person. The staff was very kind and it was clean but we were miserably uncomfortable.

Ride bikes and hike. Explore all the allowable places.

Nice campground. Hard to know what to do if you come in after hours. Would be nice if firewood was provided on site.

Overall a very nice place to explore. Hiking "trails" are short walks, some accessible for the disabled. We stayed in early November, and it was still nice. Wild horses wandered through, and we heard bull Sitka Elk bugling during the night (as well as the horses).

Camp site we stayed in was Bay side B32 - it was disappointing. It is listed as a "pull through", however it is on the left, and is a very small section of pavement. We had to park our relatively small hybrid trailer backwards, since the site is off the left side of the road. Set up is not feasible facing forward, as you would be set up in the roadway. The site itself was open and clear, but we were not allowed to park on the grass. This site should be reconfigured as a back in as other site are on this side of the loop.

Loop B is a no generator section, but loops A and C allow generators, and those sites are not far away at all and generators can be readily heard.

The NPS visitor center is on the mainland, so requires a drive to go visit, but is worth the trip.

We will stay here again, but will be more careful with our site selection.

An amazing trip!! I only spent one night at one of the tent camp spots but I wish I had stayed longer! The National park is very small, and very manageable. You can drive most of it, which is nice. There are small nature walks off the road that are very easy and offer INCREDIBLE views. I wish I had spent more time walking along the beach, venturing past the park a little, but if you can only do one night it is still definitely worth it, and you can still see a ton of stuff! And a TON of ponies!! Chincoteague is worth a visit if you have time, it's about an hour and a half away, but if you can't make it, don't worry, Assateague is the destination. Definitely stop at Bucks on the way in, it has anything you forgot plus more. Bring your own firewood (from close by!), there are plenty of places on the side of the road selling it on your way in. But make sure you check that it's well seasoned. I made that mistake and wasn't able to get a fire started all night.
Overall - Very incredible experience! Stop at the visitors center, stop for firewood, take LOTS of pictures, and don't touch the ponies! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

I love Asseteague Island. Camping right on the beach is unbelievable. Seeing wild horses is also such an amazing gift and seeing them on the beach is breathtaking. There are a few downfalls. Having to book six months in advance to get a beach camping spot is excessive. Also, this is the only place that charges for each car in addition to the camping fee. Also, no hot water is not exactly a problem in August since it is so hot but I would like to go in the off season bit would not choose the National Park because of the all cold showers.

Campsites are fairly private. The ocean and bay side beaches are nice. I like the board walk over the marsh. Great to see the horses and turtles.

This was my twelfth visit here and it's never a bad time. In April, during the week, the bike rental was NOT open, so bring your own if you'd like to cycle around the island. And it got quite chilly at night, so if you're tenting it like I do, you'll need a really good sleeping bag and a tent heater would be nice too. The town of Berlin is a great place to visit on rainy days too!

It is the seashore, also the bay. It is the perfect place to be.
