The Assateague Island National Seashore park lands and facilities are well maintained. For future visitors during the summer months, we want to relay and emphasize that the mosquitos, gnats, no-see-ums, and other bugs are extremely prevalent and aggressive at this camp site and in the Bay Area in general. We shortened our trip because even with significant mitigation measures (bug spray, camper with screens, citronella candles, full body clothing and mosquito nets), we still got bit up a lot. Theres nothing that the staff could do to prevent this, but wanted to make sure others are aware of how bad the bugs are this time of year. Seeing the horses was amazing and the staff is incredibly kind. Beaches are gorgeous.

The bathrooms on Bayside are like gulag cell blocks. I dont have any trouble with cold water showers, but the shower head was ridiculously small with poor flow and you had to push a button EVERY SEVEN SECONDS to keep the water flowing. It was ponderous, to stay the least. On the Oceanside, the showers had large shower heads will a big pull handle to keep the water flowing and while you could maintain privacy, the shower room was open to the outdoors.I also have no trouble with pit toilets, but even the toilet structures were somehow more friendly on Oceanside.I feel like whoever the architect was for the facilities on Bayside had only designed high security prisons previously. On a more positive note, the staff couldnt have been better. They were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Ive camped all over the country and the staff at Assateague is superior to staff at most other National Parks. With all my complaints about the lousy bathrooms on Bayside, except for trash and waste that sometimes accumulated in between cleanings from inconsiderate campers not cleaning up after themselves, the bathrooms were very clean and cleaned regularly.

Holy cow or should I say horse. They were everywhere. This was our first trip to Assateague and were shocked by the abundance of horses around. It was nice to see fellow travelers giving the horses the appropriate berth. Second acknowledgement is the ample biking available. We spent most of our time travel around on our bikes, which we appreciated.

We had a lovely time. The park staff was helpful. The beach was really clean. Our campsite was orderly. The horses will come right up to your tent/camp site, which the kids loved. Loved our stay here, would come again.

We had a wonderful experience overall camping with our kids and it really is hard to find a better way to get them to the beach. The bathrooms were clean, staff friendly, beaches beautiful. But if you have a choice, avoid this particular campsite. It was by far the worst of any we saw on the campground. It was tiny and surrounded by brush, with the picnic table so crammed into the brush that it was basically unusable, full of ticks and there was no space for the kids to play. Also it was very close to other sites and we had the very bad luck to be next to someone in an RV who ran an extremely noisy generator nonstop from morning until we asked him to turn it off at quiet time at 10am, so the only time we could hear anything else was late at night or early morning. Not cool. Loop B has a no generator policy and would be much better for tent camping if you cant get an oceanside site. But even in loop C every other site had more space and a better view. The park service should have just skipped this one. We tried to move but everything was booked. We will return but if this is the only site available we would just wait until we can reserve something else.

Our family really needed this little getaway. It was such a great time having the ponies walk right through our campsite. We can't wait to go back.

Love the Assateague NP campground. Sites are good size with some vegetation between sites on the bayside sites. Our site was on bayside and we had a fabulous view across the water. The park is beautiful and seeing the ponies is the highlight. This is one of my favorite places to camp.

This park was absolutely beautiful. I am not a fan of outhouse style bathrooms, but I would stay here over and over again for the animals and the views.
