Beautiful campground. Some shadehorses, donkeys and javelina. Water available. Ice and gas at store!

The campsite was great with a structure over the table that provided shade. The area is imposing. Bring your binoculars and telescope.

Spacious campsites and many with good shade. Lots of animals to spot; everything from deer and javelinas to vermillion flycatchers and cicadas.However, the unfenced and adjacent ranch land means there is lots of donkey, horse, and cow manure all over the campground - and there was plenty at our site. Donkeys roamed the campground for several hours one night and two were wearing bells, so between the clanging and the braying of the donkeys, it wasnt terribly restful.Village store is well stocked, has working WiFi, and the store/gas station is the only place in the park where you can add air to your tires.

The campgrounds are well maintained including the individual sites, public areas and bathrooms. So quiet and beautiful. The staff were all so helpful. Well definitely be back.

Great campground. Park representative very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Originally hesitant about location at one end of park, but, in the end, the location actually worked out perfectly for my wife and me. Would easily and readily recommend to anyone. Definitely recommend the Boquilas (SP?) canyon hike and the Borillas (SP?) border crossing.

This was my second visit to Big Bend, first time was 5 years ago when I camped at Chisos Basin campground for a week full of awe and wonder how much Nature's marvel could affect how much simpler lifestyle can bring much fuller meaning and happiness and peace surrounded by creatures coexisting in harmony.This second camping experience was spent at Rio Grande Village and once again I have the grateful feeling for having an exceptional opportunity to be among roaming animals unmindful of humans just simply living on Nature's bounty without showing aggressive behavior, donkeys, horses, javelinas, and different types of birds were such natural means to amuse our souls and with their cacophony of sounds complimenting the night sky is far more healing and soothing than anything else in my opinion.The scenic drives along marvelous mountains never fails to make me wonder how much beauty they provide in endless ways depending on time of day, their magnificence captivated in real time cannot exactly be captured by my camera lens but are mostly embedded in my memories .Lastly, I have the time and means to indulge myself, spend camping without having to restrict how many days since this lifestyle I'm having as retirement life after existing for over three decades working hard providing for families hadn't been able to get much out of life's other than stressful things, thus even at older age , venturing out into Nature and road trips are more rewarding for well being.Camping lifestyle brings out how we cope with nature's habitat in harmony and teaches us how to adapt to changes and embrace ,accept our experiences with positive mindset and outcomes.Recommendations, savor each day, every encounter with other creatures, animals , birds, plants, fellow campers and changing weather, and experience the awesome night sky in total darkness, drive all scenic trails in different times of days when possible for countless panoramic views .Happiness is our mindset on Nature's life.

Campsite 42 was an incredible choice! We had a huge amount of space for: enjoying a bbq-sponsored dinner, parking our car and setting-up the tent. This site had a decent amount of grass, and as it was surrounded by trees really gave us a fair amount of shade both during the evening and during the morning.The area is pretty safe, and I would recommend to everybody walking around, (specially during the night) to enjoy the solitude of star-gazing by your own.The campground ambassador came to introduce himself a few minutes after our arrival, and was very nice to talk to!Be aware of the presence of wildlife in the area, and of some farm animals roaming directly from Mexico. We really enjoyed watching them all.

The campground is much nicer than we expected with a great trail close by. It was 107 degrees when we were there and wished there were electrical sites because our truck camper was almost unbearable at night. The manager of the store nearby was very helpful and since wed been traveling for awhile it was wonderful to have laundry facilities there. So much wildlife in the campground! Javelinas, roadrunners and even a bull that must have sneaked across the river. I just recommend not going in late spring, too hot!

Great campground, sites are private, we really enjoy the ranger talks and were disappointed that staffing cuts made it impossible for them to do the talks.

Host was helpful and facilities were clean. Enjoyed the burros in the campground!

Rio Grande Village serves as a base for many activities. Crossing the river to Boquillas is fun and interesting. The town is very modest and friendly. Cabrito tacos at Jose Falcons were delicious! The boardwalk on the river is very beautiful at sunset.

The park is great. Enjoyed the night sky and quietness every night. The burros and javelinas in camp are fun to see. The end of April starts getting a little warm. Recommend a little earlier in the season. The border crossing is only open on certain days youll have to check with the Rangers.

Rio Grand Village is my place to camp at Big Bend. Bathrooms are clean, ample space between campsite. The grounds are clean and safe. Plenty of wildlife that walks through.
@NicholasC11628 · Camped on Apr 19, 2025 at Campsite #19
Really enjoyed our stay. Well kept and clean. For a dark park I would have liked to see more respect with lights, but a short drive or walk fixed that situation. In all everything was fantastic.
@PatrickW387339 · Camped on Apr 18, 2025 at Campsite #26
Good campsite. Secluded from the big open field part of the campsite. Good access to the Nature Trail. Showers were backed up and a mess when we were there.

Electric hook ups would have been helpful in dealing with the heat. But sites are big and trees offer some shade

The wind was really bad when we were there. Not sure if it like that all the time, but the tent pads could not hold stakes and I had to tie our tent to the car, brick column, and picnic table to keep it from blowing away. My friend felt all the gravel through her sleeping pad. The only plus was that the store location was convenient and the bathrooms were well-maintained.

I cannot believe I waited this long to visit Big Bend National Park. The park is gorgeous, with so many different opportunites for hiking, birding, and enjoying nature and the scenery. The Rio Grande Village camp site was excellent: easy to find, easy to find our spot (labeled daily with your initials), clean bathrooms with running water and a place to wash dishes, easy access to trails. The Village store showers were easy to use ($2 for 5 minutes, quarters available at the camp store). Everyone was friendly and respectful (employees, volunteers, and visitors) and you just can't beat the views. There is internet at the centers and stores, so you're not totally offgrid. Bring your passport if you want to offically go into Mexico (and not just hop stones across the Rio Grande). I live in rural Texas, and the recycling was better at the park than at my house, plus I love that the each campsite provided a safe place to store your food from wildlife like bears (we did not see any).

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
