The campsite was great with a structure over the table that provided shade. The area is imposing. Bring your binoculars and telescope.

This was my second visit to Big Bend, first time was 5 years ago when I camped at Chisos Basin campground for a week full of awe and wonder how much Nature's marvel could affect how much simpler lifestyle can bring much fuller meaning and happiness and peace surrounded by creatures coexisting in harmony. This second camping experience was spent at Rio Grande Village and once again I have the grateful feeling for having an exceptional opportunity to be among roaming animals unmindful of humans just simply living on Nature's bounty without showing aggressive behavior, donkeys, horses, javelinas, and different types of birds were such natural means to amuse our souls and with their cacophony of sounds complimenting the night sky is far more healing and soothing than anything else in my opinion. The scenic drives along marvelous mountains never fails to make me wonder how much beauty they provide in endless ways depending on time of day, their magnificence captivated in real time cannot exactly be captured by my camera lens but are mostly embedded in my memories .Lastly, I have the time and means to indulge myself, spend camping without having to restrict how many days since this lifestyle I'm having as retirement life after existing for over three decades working hard providing for families hadn't been able to get much out of life's other than stressful things, thus even at older age , venturing out into Nature and road trips are more rewarding for well being.Camping lifestyle brings out how we cope with nature's habitat in harmony and teaches us how to adapt to changes and embrace ,accept our experiences with positive mindset and outcomes.Recommendations, savor each day, every encounter with other creatures, animals , birds, plants, fellow campers and changing weather, and experience the awesome night sky in total darkness, drive all scenic trails in different times of days when possible for countless panoramic views .Happiness is our mindset on Nature's life.

Such a wonderful place to explore. Gina and Cory, our camp hosts were wonderful. We saw a Vermilion flycatcher, Havelina pig, wild burrows, road runners, and half a hundred turkey buzzards. We experienced all four seasons in the seven days that we were there. From 104F to a beautiful rain and our breath puffing in the cold air on the last morning we were there. We took a wonderful adventure horseback trip in Boquillas Mexico, with Edgar Ureste. Highly recommend, it was wonderful. I had wonderful cell phone coverage at the bridge. Five minutes away. And the Wi-Fi at the visitor center is fast and reliable. Thank you!

Fresh water pumps to fill your gallon containers at the bath houses. This was very helpful. Clean and quiet, well maintained.

The campsites were clean and easy to access. The bathrooms were convenient to almost any site in the campground and were regularly cleaned. The Rio Grande Village store had everything that I needed and was in walking distance from the campground. All campers were quiet and respectful during the 4 nights that I camped. Wonderful night sky views. Can't wait to return next winter.

FLUSHING TOILETS!!!! Such a game changer. There is a TON of wildlife, cows scared us late at night mooing up a storm and eating grass right by our tent while we were trying to sleep!!! Two coyotes were running around the site the second night too so stay aware and bring a flashlight! But beautiful area with lots of people to help feel safe. Right by an amazing nature trail with beautiful views of the river and wetlands.

Beautiful packs of javalinas during our morning and evening walks. Safe from coyotes but we could hear them blissfully nearby.. magical short walk to beautiful views right within the campground ..

Site 52. Very quiet spot with nice covered picnic table. Very nice nature trails at the campground, especially at sunset. Fabulous bargain for laundry at the camp store - washed and dried a load of laundry for $2! The big dryer only needs 2 quarters to dry even towels. Would have given 5 stars but site 52 is not very level and I needed to use leveling blocks to try and level it out.

Loved the animals, and proximity to the nature trail. Bathrooms were sparse but clean. Showers nearby. Knocked off a star because of the cancellation policy that doesnt incentivize people who want to cancel their stay, which means sites get left unused rather than going to someone who would use them. Maybe a penalty for no-shows (like my doctor does) would be a solution?

We stayed at Rio Grande Village Campground for 3 nights in early March. The site we had was large and comfortably fit our 31 ft. 5th wheel. We enjoyed hiking and sight-seeing in the area. We did visit the town across the border in Mexico. We took the boat shuttle, but when we were there the river could easily have been waded. Unfortunately, we were unable to use our kayaks on the river because National Parks require you to carry an extra paddle, which we didn't realize and didn't have, so they wouldn't issue us the required permit. A suggested improvement would be to have a walking trail (off the road) from the campground to the visitor center.

Everything was great, except for the dump station. Most new RVs have a standard threaded hose connector for the black water flush. The supplied black flush fitting doesnt work and just wastes water.

Half the Campground at Rio Grande Village was closed due to covid making reservations a nightmare. Half the trails were closed due to the assumption that covid was lurking around every corner waiting to get you. The trails that aren't infected by covid don't allow leashed pets. First come first serve Campgrounds closed due to covid. Covid was probably waiting there to get us.Staff was nice. No one steps inside visitor centers. The whole experience was weird. Beautiful place though.
