Campsite 42 was an incredible choice! We had a huge amount of space for: enjoying a bbq-sponsored dinner, parking our car and setting-up the tent. This site had a decent amount of grass, and as it was surrounded by trees really gave us a fair amount of shade both during the evening and during the morning. The area is pretty safe, and I would recommend to everybody walking around, (specially during the night) to enjoy the solitude of star-gazing by your own.The campground ambassador came to introduce himself a few minutes after our arrival, and was very nice to talk to!Be aware of the presence of wildlife in the area, and of some farm animals roaming directly from Mexico. We really enjoyed watching them all.

Camp site 42 is private with lots of wildlife in and around the site. Very quite, if there is noise the host very quickly stops the noise. Will camp at this site again.

Best campground in big Bend. Nature walk out of the campground and overlooking the valley is stupendous and worth every bit of spending a night or more here.

Beautiful campground; spacious. Do not miss the "RGV nature trail", which is a short but beautiful hike with great views. The Camp hosts, Ken and Pat were present, hardworking and really nice. Bathrooms as clean as can at all be expected.

Every amenity was "as advertised" on the website. What was absent, was the professionalism of the volunteers. They were great! The privately run store needs some work (washers and dryers, discharge pressure on the diesel pump). Visitors center was first class. All the paved roads were in great shape. We were only able to see 1/3 of the park and will definitely go back to finish our tour. It has been a long time since I saw such a dark sky. Keep up the good work NPS!

This was our first stay at Rio Grande Village (having previously stayed at Chisos Basin and Cottonwood). We have two dogs, and this one was the best for dog walking, as there are ample paved roads that they can go on. We stayed 2 weeks, one week on site 27, which has vegetation and is in loop 2, which is more set off from the main central area (which has a dearth of privacy). Solar was not the greatest at 27, however, and as I needed it to have sufficient juice for working, we found that site 42 for our second week was better, and as it was in the corner, it had a bit more privacy than many of the other sites in that section. We also appreciated having the proximity to the store for reasonably priced goods, gas, propane, and laundry, particularly being there for 2 weeks. It seems that daytime temps are regularly higher in this part of the park, and as it was January, this was appreciated! We love BBNP and will likely make it a regular stop on our winter travels.

I spent a night at Rio Grande Village campground. It was such a great experience to stay at the remote area. Will go back there again.

Amazing spot! I loved the bear boxes for organizational purposes and getting stuff out of my car let alone the animal aspect. The no generator zone was very appreciated.

beautiful campsite. once in a life time experience.
if not in a shaded spot, consider bringing a canopy.
wake up early to avoid the heat in summer.
this is a more rugged experience than some parks, prepare accordingly.
river current is strong, be careful if swimming.

Loved the RGV Campgrounds. The grounds have bathrooms with running water and flushing toilets. There is a little room attached to the bathrooms with a dish pit to wash your dishes and drinking water spouts throughout the grounds. There are plenty of dumpsters for trash and recylings and Bear bins for storing your food. We did see a Javelina scavenging through the campgrounds so we highly recommend using those Bear Bins for your food storage and we heard coyotes one night. We stayed in the No Generator Zone so it was pretty quite and there is no cell service here unless you go to the RGV store, they have free Wifi and coin operated laundry but their showers are closed due to Covid-19. There is a Nature Trail that starts from the campground that we LOVED! It leads you to a cute little sandy area by the river, or you can take another trail up onto a hill with perfect views of the sunset. This trail is very easy, we saw people of all ages. Other trails are near by that you can drive to with parking spots, we highly recommend Boquillas Trail. Our Camp Host Suzanne, she was so nice and friendly.
