This was a beautiful campground, especially compared the gravel parking lot we stayed at in Terlingua! The trees, birds, wildlife, and vegetation were a very welcome sight. The camp host greeted us and was very friendly and helpful. We loved site 87. It was close to the bathrooms and not far at all from the Rio Grande nature trail. Would definitely stay here again!

One of the nice things about Rio Grande Village is there is coin operated showers, laundry mat, and store right outside the campground plus the store has free WiFi if you need to connect as there is no cell service in most parts of the park. If you are an avid hiker then Emory Peak is a great 10mile round trip hike with lots of really nice views. Also, the window trail is a nice 5 mile hike if your not that ambitious. Both of these trails start at the same place and there is a lodge with restaurant and bar you can stop at when your done with your hike. Just know the restaurant and bar typically shutdown 3pm to 5pm daily to switch over to dinner serving. Santa Elena Canyon trail is an easy hike and is spectacular to see if you have never been there. Also there is a fossil exhibit in the park that is pretty awesome with several exhibits. Another easy trail that is worth the walk is the Balanced Rock trail...worth the trip. Rio Grande village has bathrooms with running water and potable water as well as a dish washing station. Very well maintained, quiet, clean campground. You do get the occasional Deer, Coyote and Javelina through camp at various times but they keep their distance. Great place to camp...we stayed 5 days Dec 11 -15th 2023. The weather was great 30's to 40's at night and mid to upper 60's or 70's in the day...no rain. Great camping trip.

The photos of the campsite are misleading. There is no shaded picnic table at site 87. Also when we went they were irrigating the grass at this site. This made it difficult to secure the tent as we had to use a small area of the gravel pad that was not taken up by our vehicle. It would have been uncomfortable had we not brought a cot. This site is fine if you are camping in your vehicle or if you have a small camper. I would not recommend it for tent camping unless there are no other options or you bring some extra padding.

Excellent place for a basecamp! There is so much to see and do on that side of the park. I highly recommend taking the trail behind the campground to the top of the hill at sunset. Also, we blew a fuse in our RV water system, and the camp store had a replacement!

The Rio Grand campground is clean. Showers are available. No wood campfires allowed, though some did. Internet only by the store. There's no cell service in the area. Store has everything you might need.

Water main to the camps broke knocking out the plumbing/ bathrooms for 2 days of the stay.

Car is also needed to get to almost all of the hiking trails from this camp ground.

No cell service and the internet at the ranger station is not that good.

I would not stay at this campground if I was a remote worker.

The amount of shade varies greatly between sites, so check that campground map vs google maps closely! There were some very noisy generators, fortunately theyre not permitted to be used at night. Do the Nature trail!

We loved the serenity of Rio Grande as well as the lovely nature trail. Its also a great place to walk, jog or bicycle.

Crowded campground, but I hear all national park campgrounds are crowded (spaces close together). Night sky viewing was disappointing due to cars coming and goinging a lot and many campsite lights at other sites. The toilets were clean and the toilet paper was always in stock, but other than that (sweeping, knocking down spider webs, cleaning sinks...) the restrooms were dirty and poorly lit. Loved the bearboxes! And the weather in December was very pleasant. No need for heater at night if you have a warm sleeping bag and don't have to get out of bed early. We just wait for the sun to warm the place up. Next time we'll stay in a dispersed campsite or at Cottonwood campground for better night skies, but still, Big Bend is just amazing.
