We had a great first day with very helpful camp host. Very informative. Sadly our stay was canceled because of the White Sage fire incident. As we had to evacuate because of only one way out. We were gone when the Dragon Bravo fire exploded from the high winds. We will come back next year if the North Rim can recover and open by then.

Ive wanted to visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon since 4th grade, when my teacher read Marguerite Henrys Brighty of the Grand Canyon to my class. We loved the little wild donkey and were drawn to Henrys descriptions of this rugged and secluded spot. Pulling into Jacob Lake in the early afternoon on Wednesday, July 9, we made our final pit stop (and grabbed some Jacob Lake Inn cookies). The local park ranger happened to mention a wildfire caused by a lightning strike that could affect some of the places we might try to hike; she was told this fire, named Dragon Bravo, was being managed. Other than the imposing name, I didnt think much about it. At dusk on July 10, just as we left a Cape Royal sunset, two park rangers stepped into the road wildly waving for us to stop. Youve got to evacuate the park immediately. She informed us about a second out-of-control wildfire near Jacob Lake that threatened to cut off the only exit out of the park. Drive toward Page. There was no time for further conversation. As we hurried the 45 minute drive back to the North Rim Campground we could also see for the first time the smoke from the other, smaller Dragon Bravo fire to the west in the fading light. When we finally turned into the North Rim Village in the dark we could see the flashing lights of emergency vehicles at every major intersection. Ominously, an ambulance was parked at the Kaibab Trailhead, with a person inside that we could hear loudly vomiting. At the entrance to the campground we were stopped again, but let through to pack our tent. There was no one else in the campground. We were the last ones out. We drove through the darkness to Jacob Lake an hour away, where the glow from the growing White Sage wildfire lit up the northern sky, then further into the night to Page. It took 45 years for me to reach the North Rimon the very last day possible before it all burned down.

We had two prime spots and those around us were kind, welcoming and full of information(an added plus since we had questions). The shuttle ran every 15 minutes and the walk to the Lodge was only a mile or so. There are no words to describe what we witnessed in nature. Still in awe of the greatness. The sunrise and the sunsets are exquisite. The mule ride was the icing on the cake- we faced our fear as a family and had the best time with Kyle the guide,Weaver, the group we were with and the mules.

Absolutely the crown jewel of our ten-National Park trip and we are heartbroken that fire destroyed it two days after we left (which was hours before the evacuations). This was our last stop and everything was amazing, from the huge canyon-view site to the camp host couple and shuttle drivers. We had saved the best for last, and were hoping to someday return.

Site 15 has a slight grade but can get level. This site also is at the trail head so there are a lot of people passing by and cutting through your site. Pick site 14 or 16 for more privacy. Campground is very quiet and its the North Rim :). Hopefully the Dragon Bravo fire doesnt destroy this area. We left the morning of the evacuation order in the afternoon on 7/11.

This was a really nice campground close to the rim views. We saw the lodge down the street several days before it burned down. It was all so beautiful, what a shame. This campground did not survive either. Heartbreaking.

We camped there two days before the fire. So sad. Our experience at the Rim cannot be fully described.

We left one day early due to concerns over the encroaching fire and its a good thing we did. Otherwise we had a lovely stay at the North Rim campground. We felt a little silly at first setting up our own shower/bathrooom tent until we found out that the showers were closed as were the flush toilets at the main lodge due reportedly to water rationing. Suddenly we were the only tent campers with a shower. Some folks probably cut their stays short because of that. The hosts were friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Late arriving vehicle headlight and folks walking to the toilet at midnight with very bright head torches shined directly into the campsites woke us up more than once.

The campground is just lovely!!! It's very clean and quiet. The bathrooms were super nice, too.There are a few things to know: if you're tent camping, while this is considered a "premium" site, it is sloped with no tent pad. If you're car camping, the driveway is also on an incline. The site is adjacent to the Transcept Trail which means there are hikers to and fro most of the day until sunset. If you have a dog that barks at people, this might not be the site for you. Also, pick up firewood ahead of your stay. The camp store was out late afternoon on Friday (4th of July) and still hadn't received their expected delivery when we left on Sunday.I adored my stay here but think these might be important for other campers to know. I will definitely be camping here again!

I had forgotten what a wonderful campground this one is. The sites are spacious with room in between. It is mostly quiet and the general store is an easy walk

We loved our stay at the North Rim Campground. They were on a stage 3 water warning and we did not have showers or laundry available. We stayed 2 nights and it was fine. The camp sites are generous in size and beautiful trees with plenty of shade. We took the mule trip which was close by and ate lunch at the lodge deli -- a little overpriced but good food. We hiked many of the trails in the area. I would much rather return here than to the south rim again. It's just quieter and more relaxing. The cabins at the lodge looked very nice and inviting, we might have to try those out next time.

Got to stay at this sublime campground days before the fire destroyed it. such a shame. This is one of my favorite campgrounds and I would come every year because everything about it is just so wonderful and you are steps away from the canyon.

The North Rim campground has long been one of our most favorite places in the world. Its quiet, peaceful, spacious sites are a balm for the soul. We are so heartbroken at hearing that the Lodge has been lost. Family dinners there and stargazing from its veranda hold a special place in our hearts. We are hoping to see it rise from the ashes <3

Everything was great, the only complaint I have is that the showers were not working due to water restrictions. It would have been nice to be notified prior to our camping trip.

Gorgeous campground with clean bathrooms and close proximity to amazing trails, bike or hike! Site 70 was extra spacious. General store is right in the campground.

North Rim Campground was the cleanest and most beautiful campground Ive ever stayed at. The general store had everything you could need and was reasonably priced. Staff was extremely helpful, our entire experience was great!

Beautiful place to camp. Undermanned and can have abrupt water shortages, so come prepared! Consider it dry camping, and your expectations will be set correctly.

We stayed in Site 17 which was a last minute booking. It had shady areas in morning and evening for cooking. RV was always in sun which was hot during the day. Site was close to restrooms and trash. And, trail. Bathrooms was very clean! Rules for generator times was not enforced. Over four days saw one person driving thru park checking on things. Wonderful stay.

Beautiful campground! Super quiet while we were there. Loved the forest environment, distance from other campers & proximity to the lodge and canyon. Want to go back!

Nice quiet campground. Plenty of trees but they're high so they don't provide privacy. Not a problem, everyone keeps to themselves and it was quiet. I only bought ice and water and they were pricey but I guess that's to be expected way out there. Takes time to get adjusted to altitude so I only hiked the transept trail, which I enjoyed very much. I had an excellent cocktail at the tavern at the lodge. The mule ride was fun. I didn't use the shuttle but people definitely did and it's great they offer it.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
