Dubuque, located along the Mississippi River, has plenty of great camping areas. Mines of Spain Recreation Area, just outside town, offers rustic camping with scenic overlooks and hiking trails. Dubuque County Fairgrounds Campground provides convenient camping with access to events and outdoor activities. Bellevue State Park, to the south, offers campsites with stunning river views. Yellow River State Forest, further north, has beautiful campgrounds with extensive hiking trails. Pikes Peak State Park, also to the north, provides breathtaking views of the Mississippi River with excellent camping facilities.

Battle of Athens Campground is part of Battle of Athens State Historic Site in Missouri (1 hr 12 min northwest of Quincy, IL) with an elevation of 634 feet. There are a total of 29 campsites which are all tent-only sites. The campground is open all year. Max equipment length is 40 feet. All sites are currently first-come first-served. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. 15 sites have electric hookups. Fees range from $15.00 to $27.00. Some amenities include drinking water, restroom, firewood. Activities include boating, fishing, hiking trails.
