Really nice hike in to the campsite. Lovely spot to camp, except for one thing...Site #1 is too close to the bathroom. Worst smelling bathroom ever. Like Guinness book of world records worst smell ever.

Lovely campsite but poison oak head high on the trail up and back.

I come back every year. This is a wonderful place to unwind and settle into geologic time.

Very lovely trail with beautiful coastal and woodland views. The best part of the trip was when a herd of elk came to graze in the meadow by the campground at dusk. Lucked out on the weather and the side trip to Alamere Falls is well worth it.

Well taken care of, the campsite had a picnic table and and food locker. Plenty of space for a one-person and a four-person tents. We hiked the trail from Palomarin and stopped at Bass lake. Swam across the lake. The water was significantly warmer than the ocean, comfortable enough to stay for a while (this was end of May). We were planning to bike to the campground but ended up hiking. We didn't know if there were any structures to lock our bikes to besides the horses poles that a ranger had suggested. However, near the toilets we found two structures ("arches") that seem designed to lock bikes to.

Coast Campground site #1 is well-protected from the wind, which was nice. Water and bathroom isn't too far of a walk, and beach access is great. The site is small, and is advertised as fitting 6 people. There were 6 in our party and it was very tight fitting 3 backpacking tents. It really should be advertised as fitting 4 people.
@AmandaB8644117 · Camped on May 23, 2025 at Campsite #S6
Site 6 is gorgeous! Theres enough space for at least two tents. Not too much tree coverage so you can get a good view of fhe sun setting and clouds changing colors in the morning. Even with a full camp, youre hardly able to see other sites which makes it feel more secluded/private. Great great site!

Brush at campsite 006 encroached a little on us. Otherwise clean and fun!
@AaronA6106490 · Camped on May 21, 2025 at Campsite #S5
Campgrounds were clean and amazing! Unfortunately almost all of the trails were in pretty rough shape completely overgrown along with tons of poison oak and stinging nettle hanging into the trails so cover up!
@MichaelF110976 · Camped on May 20, 2025 at Campsite #S4
All went well. Campsites were available and clean, pit toilets supplied, no real issues. Great Job, Thanks!!!

I camped at Sky Campground for one night in May. Booking a reservation for a Saturday night required logging into this website before 7 AM on the day the sites would become available and clicking the button to reserve at 7 AM exactly. 1 second late, and I would not have gotten the booking.There was adequate parking at the Sky Trailhead. No one bothered my car. The 1.4 mile hike to the campground was easy and easy to follow. The trail is an access road. There were no insects and no thieving critters. There was water available at the campground. The pit toilets weren't too bad and had plenty of paper. No campers were noisy overnight. The best sites are 5, 6, and 12. The worst sites are 3 and 4. Site 2 is for groups. Near Site 1 there is parking for 3 horses.

We stayed at Glen and Coast campgrounds. Glen was great...secluded. No wind. Overall very enjoyable. Coast was OK, it was extremely windy the day we went. What is great about these campgrounds is they have potable water and toilets. Plus places to sit (a cement bench) and bear lockers. This makes camping for novices like myself to be much more enjoyable. It still is hard sleeping on dirt, but it's camping overall.Generally quite impressed with the trails too. Occasionally they get overgrown, but overall they were great.

Point Reyes backpacking is glamping at its finest! The 4 campgrounds need to be reserved in advance and come equipped with tables, "bear boxes", pit toilets, potable water, garbage and recycling. However, don't under-estimate the effort it takes to walk the miles and go up and down in elevation. You can also bike in to these campgrounds on specific roads. The views are stupendous, the flora and fauna are so abundant that you can't quite understand what you see in one day. If you stay at Coast Camp or Wildcat camp, you have a private beach. The downsides are Poison Oak, Stinging Nettles and ticks. Because of budget cuts, the lesser trails are overgrown and sometimes you can't avoid the plants hanging over the trails. Overall, an experience that should be on your bucket list.

I just loved the Coast campground. Sunsets were amazing, it was clean, no problem getting stakes into the ground, and water was good. Bathrooms were also surprisingly clean. I did not need extra toilet paper I brought. It is not far from the beach, and had plenty of wildlife.
@Katherine16020 · Camped on May 10, 2025 at Campsite #W5
Absolutely stunning campground. We had site 5, which was nice and private. We saw all kinds of wildlife including elk and coyotes and wildflowers were blooming. Worth the early wakeup to hike down to Alamere falls at low tide. It was pretty windy, which might be a problem for some camp stoves. The campground was quite luxurious with vault toilets, potable water, trash disposal, bear boxes, and picnic tables very pleasant 1 night backpacking trip!

There were so many mosquitoes. No one was prepared for it. Everyone just hid in their tents or under blankets. I really wanted to go to the beach and watch the sunset or sunrise but the moment it cooled down for the afternoon and morning, it felt like I was constantly swarmed by 50 of them.

From the photo, I was excited to camp at Sky #9. However, a bit disappointed with the site, and the visit. Pros: The rangers at the Bear Valley Visitors Center were very kind and helpful. There are many beautiful and diverse things to see at Point Reyes. Restrooms (clean and well maintained) and potable water is so convenient, and a real plus. And, if you need any additional food or supplies, Point Reyes Station is only a few miles away. Note that while Sky #9 has a distant view of Drakes Bay, it was fogged-in when I visited on May 10th. Cons: The Sky #9 site is small, and it is NOT level. This made it difficult to sleep. It was adequate for my 3 person tent, but your tent will be perched between the bear box and a picnic table, with little other space. Your tent will be about 20 feet from the tent in the adjacent site. There is no shade at this site, and you will be in the direct sun. As far as the park itself, while I very much enjoyed the park, it was very disappointing to drive 30+ miles on windy roads to arrive at a trailhead, only to find that the trail was completely overgrown with 5-6 foot tall tick-infested weeds, and having to turn around.

The Laguna Trail has severe erosion and needs lots of work.
@AlysonF9313280 · Camped on Apr 25, 2025 at Campsite #S11
Really nice campsite with a great view. Ground is flat and cleared but a bit rocky so stakes are difficult to put into the ground. Quick hike in from sky trailhead.

I have backpacked in 11 National Parks, 10 National Forests, and 2 National Monuments. This was my first National Seashore. It was a singular and memorable experience. Of the 106 previous backpacking trips, I only awarded five stars (the maximum on my personal rating scale) to 14. This trip makes 15. Weather was near perfect with no rain. Wildcat and Glen campground facilities were exceptional. Having vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, sufficient clearings for tents are not typical of camping in the wilderness, but we certainly appreciated them. Trails were well-maintained and easy to follow with great signage. The flowers were gorgeous. Animals in the air, on the ground, and in the ocean were everywhere we looked, and up close. Humans were a curiosity to them, not a threat. We took lots of photos of Alamere Falls (accessed via Wildcat Beach) and the three unnamed upper falls (accessed via path from Coastal Trai). Viewing the remnants of Arch Rock was more fascinating than I expected and worth the five-mile loop hike from Glen Campground. The deep green landscape reminded me of my vacation in Ireland two years ago.

The Coast Trail is overgrown with Poison Oak, so it is hard to avoid brushing against it. Ticks are also transferred by walking through the high grass that brushes against your clothes.

Sky Camp is really beautiful. If the fog rolls back, the view of the ocean especially at sunset is amazing! The campground ran out of water the night we were there, that's why I took off a star. Not good if you plan for potable water. Any trails to the coast are overgrown with tons of plants, including poison oak. Fire road from Sky Trailhead was great-- watch out for thousands of banana slugs! Sites 11 and 12 were off the beaten path.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
