Such a great campsite!

My son and I had an excellent 3 day hike. Trail markings were clear and adequate. Trails were well maintained and weeds cleared 3 feet on either side. We saw very little (no?) Poison oak. Campsites were large and private. Only problem was a gopher mound erupting under my head on the first night!

Nice campsite with strong picnic table and bear box. Just one level spot for a tent. Far enough from other sites. Trails well signed. Poison oak just past the first bridge from Palomarin Trailhead grown over both sides of trail so nearly impossible to pass without brushing up against it.

OK, the only reason i didn't give higher stars is at the intersection of going to Alamere Falls or continuing to Wildcat and beyond, has a rock arrow....should have signage there. We took that detour with 30lb packs and then had to circle back. ALL IN ALL, amazing site and the beach was spectacular.

Very lovely trail with beautiful coastal and woodland views. The best part of the trip was when a herd of elk came to graze in the meadow by the campground at dusk. Lucked out on the weather and the side trip to Alamere Falls is well worth it.

I have backpacked in 11 National Parks, 10 National Forests, and 2 National Monuments. This was my first National Seashore. It was a singular and memorable experience. Of the 106 previous backpacking trips, I only awarded five stars (the maximum on my personal rating scale) to 14. This trip makes 15. Weather was near perfect with no rain. Wildcat and Glen campground facilities were exceptional. Having vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, sufficient clearings for tents are not typical of camping in the wilderness, but we certainly appreciated them. Trails were well-maintained and easy to follow with great signage. The flowers were gorgeous. Animals in the air, on the ground, and in the ocean were everywhere we looked, and up close. Humans were a curiosity to them, not a threat. We took lots of photos of Alamere Falls (accessed via Wildcat Beach) and the three unnamed upper falls (accessed via path from Coastal Trai). Viewing the remnants of Arch Rock was more fascinating than I expected and worth the five-mile loop hike from Glen Campground. The deep green landscape reminded me of my vacation in Ireland two years ago.

Stayed in site 7, it is a beautiful site up on the bluff. New tables and bear boxes are so nice! Access to the beach is a bit of a scramble when we were there, looks like there was a bit of rock slide/errosion.

In late April 2024 after setting up camp at Wildcat Campground, having hiked in from the Palomarin TH, day-hiked down the beach 1 mile to the beautiful Alamere Falls, visited, and back. Hiked down during the remaining ebb tide and back during the early flood tide, with the low tide in between. Consulted tide charts before the backpack trip to schedule my day hike timing.

With a moderate hike in to get to the campground, the location is just off the beach. Just a mile or so south you can visit the falls. Tent spots are spread apart of privacy and the site was quite on my visit.

The majority of the ground is hard to get tent stakes in, and when you do find relatively "flat ground" it will be sloped. Because of this, the floor of my tent was pitched unevenly. You can hardly see the ocean from this site, but it is the closest to Wildcat Beach. It is, for the most part, private. You'll be able to see Sites #1/2/3 from this site. You can also hike about 1 mile to Alamere Falls. Just check the tide predictions and take note of the high and low tides. Two bathrooms and potable water are available.

Beautiful location, nice private site with coyote song and Elk viewing every morning. Easy walk during low tide to Alamere. No issues with rodents in the critter box, but I do use a "rat sack". Water and pit toilet was nice to have. Wish people would close the darn lid on toilets. It helps them vent properly and be less smelly π

My experience on these trails was amazing. Had a great little 4-day backpacking trip with my cousin and nephews. Some of the trails were a bit outgrown but totally understandable due to all the rain we got. Great campsites. We made awesome memories. Thank you.

This site has a great peek-a-boo view of the ocean. However, it has a very rocky and somewhat sloped tent site. I use a hiking pole tent and was unable to find a suitable way to anchor my tent - and keep in mind that Point Reyes is often windy. I ended up having to pitch my tent along the path leading up to the site. I mention this in case you don't have a free-standing tent either.
Otherwise, it is a splendid place to spend the night and to listen to the surf!

Wildcat was amazing. The views on the hike from the Palomarin trailhead were spectacular. Positives - the amazing naturaI scenery, vault toilet was clean and stocked with TP. Negatives were that a person with an off-leash dog (I saw them hiking out) apparently stayed at my campsite the night prior, despite pets not being allowed, and did not pick up after the dog (and the urine smell was pervasive). The bear box was also gross and filled with water, but one must expect that after so much rain. I also wish there was more signage warning visitors of the hazards of the beach between Wildcat and Alamere falls. Heading to the beach I saw just one tiny, worn sign warning that the surf can reach the cliffs at high tide, but it could have easily been missed, and on my way out I encountered hikers coming in who were planning to hike to the waterfall and completely unaware of the tides (I gave them my printed tide forecast - and they were timed to arrive right at HIGH tide). Overall it was an absolutely beautiful place to camp for the night and I will return again and again.

Wildcat Campsite 7 is not very level but it is relatively sheltered from the winds. Note that despite the picture on recreation.gov NPS has removed the grill. You'll have to bring your own gas stove.Alamere Falls is great. Mind the tides.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
