We had a rough experience. We were tent camping and a storm blew in collapsing the tent in the middle of the night. Ok totally our fault. But dang could you please put in hot showers. What a miserable experience to not be able to rinse off from a day at the beach except in water I can only assume was piped from the arctic.

We camped in the A circle and the mens bathroom has had a problem toilet for years. Otherwise, I would have said excellent.

As beach camping goes, this place is the best. The campsites are not too windy or buggy, although both are just a part of beach camping. Multi-day storms can flood some sites, so be aware when you reserve and check weather - again, just a given with beach camping. Some sites are drier, windier, and less buggy than others, so take time to look at the site before reserving. Generally, the more sheltered, the more buggy. The Park Service does a good job of making sure that campers keep noise down after hours, which is greatly appreciated when you are in a tent or a pop-up trailer. They also take good care of the bathrooms and showers. We look forward to our next trip.

Overall, it was what we expected, including the cold showers and insects but it's beach camping so that's OK. I do suggest better signage for the official beach access. The sites on the perimeters offer much more privacy than the inner sites. Our days here were some of our favorite of a three week road trip.

We have been coming to Ocracoke for over 30 years, camping for 5. We love it here. The camping experience is another matter. There are two main problems, loud open frame job site style generators and barking dogs.We had three of these incredibly load generators near us. Fortunately one was there for only a day. The other two, which were next to each other, stayed for the rest of our visit. Several campers were forced to move due to the incredibly loud noise which went on from 8 am until 9 pm every day. Many state parks do not allow these types of gen sets.And of course there is the ubiqitous barking dog problem. The Hosts and Rangers should be more proactive on this issue.

The experience was magical. The sites are well maintained, and so are the bathrooms and bathhouses. The sunrise is stunning. Climb the sand dunes and watch the sun pop up over the ocean! The mosquitoes were missing in action, but a few deer flies showed up for the party. Everyone was quiet and respectful. Great for families and a gather of friends.

Sites are easy to back into but they are close to each other. Access to water is good. We didnt use the bathhouses much but they are clean enough. The dump station is functional for that necessity. Relatively convenient to the village and great access to the beach. Most campers kept to themselves and enjoyed their experience as we enjoyed ours.

Great place to camp except for the cold showers.

If you enjoy boondocking it was great. It would be much more enjoyable with water at every campsite. As close together as the sites are, two back to back could share an outlet.

Great campsites. All in full sun. No electric or water. Nice toilet/ sink house w cold , no light shower house nearby. Short walk to beach thru deep sand. Super, polite, quiet, fun, from everywhere campers. 3 hour ferry ride to mainland so plan ahead. Book online as no staff to ck you in etc. Remember your site # as it will be posted on your site.

We stayed in our travel trailer, this is a nice campground in a beautiful setting. Relatively large camp spots. There are no electric hookups, in hot weather I imagine there will be a lot of generators running. The bath house was nice in loop A but was surprised to only see one outdoor shower.We had heavy rain and some of the sites had standing water. Our site A-13 remained dry.

Some generators were very lourd eorking almost all Day long.

The park is well maintained. Easy to self check in and find your spot if you use the website to get oriented. The campsites are cleared and restrooms easily accessible.Noted issues were thousands and thousands of sand spurs. Unable to walk without foot protection. Bathrooms do not have shelves so changing is difficult. Shower water is ground temperature. Felt like water went through a chiller before it goes to the shower.Reservation process is easy and works well. Will not return due to sand spurs. Dogs WILL be miserable due to sand spurs if you bring them.If you pull a camper, stay inside of your trailer and wear your shoes when you go outside it is great.

Close to the beach, nice clean sites with good separation. Bath houses were clean as were the showers. The campground is a short drive or ride on a bike to town. Good selection of activities, restaurants, and a nice grocery store that we found to be very well stocked with any thing you might need.
@TerriN8830276 · Camped on May 6, 2025 at Campsite #B8
not much to it really. just a slab of asphalt in a field. sites are close without much cover between them.

Absolutely gorgeous campground. Helpful staff. Only wish is that the campground could provide hot showers. Absolutely love Ocracoke. Cant wait to return!

We had an amazing time at the Ocracoke campground. Our campsite was behind the sand dunes with easy access to the beach. The park staff was Very nice and accommodating. The bathrooms were clean. Our favorite part of the beach was like having a private beach with very few people on the beach. Bonus the beach is Dog friendly. The downtown area restaurants and shops are only a few mile from the campsite. We will definitely visit this island again.

We were there end April. We really enjoyed our three days at Ocracoke. The campground was great, even though it didnt provide for hookups. Its beautiful, remote and the sites are well spaced. Great access to beach over the dunes. Not crowded at all. Town is within biking distance on a separate bike path.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
