Beautiful, spacious and close to beach. We stayed one night in early November. It was warmer than normal I think and the mosquitos showed up in the morning - our site was near brush. Best part was sky gazing at night with almost total darkness. We took our truck and trailer on the ferry from Hatteras(free). Then caught the Cedar Island Ferry to mainland ($45).

I loved this site because there were two trees at the back where I could hang my hammock.

This is a fabulous campground with the beach just over the dunes. We could hear the sound of the waves all night.

Perfect spot but could have used a warm shower in December.

The campground was laid out well and restrooms were clean. Got to see the Milky Way for the first time and it was truly magical! It was our first time to Ocracoke and although it was the off-season we had a great experience camping and dining the at the local Jason’s Diner and Pony Island restaurant People were nice and helpful.

The park ground general always has a light breeze which makes the heat tolerable, we made the mistake of setting up on the wrong side of a bush thicket where the wind could not penetrate.

The Ocracoke campground is very unique. First and foremost be prepared for mosquitoes. MIGHTY MOSQUITOES & BITING FLIES!!! Also prepare yourself for extreme weather conditions such as high winds and flooding. If you are a tent camper make sure your tent can withstand 30MPH wind gusts and if it rains, be prepared for sleeping in water. There are only a few campsites that do not flood. We have stayed at this campground 6 times now, thankfully in an RV. 75% of the people who tent camp and or have pop up tents, they end up in the garbage, broken and tattered as the weather can go from calm to extreme being on an island. The camp hosts and rangers are wonderful and helpful.
