The cool showers are OK. That makes sure people don't stay in too long and hog the facilities.

The location is fantastic! The campsite is well-maintained and the amenities are perfect given the proximity to the beach. I'll be reservations for next year. The village of Ocracoke is also quite special!

Rangers & staff are putting in double time due to the cuts to seasonal hiring. The park is, as always, a wonderful place to camp & spend time.Visitors need to be mindful of their surroundings: Pick-up your trash. Keep the bathrooms & shower stalls as nice for the next person as you would have it for yourself. Make an effort to maintain this beautiful place for the visiting humans AND the wildlife that calls this place Home. And, PLEASE, remember to watch out for all critters & teach your children to do the same. Don't chase them please. They're just trying to live. The pony Ranger was missed this year. We were informed that she was "on furlough". Laura is the Human highlight of the Pony Pen. Always personable & happy to answer visitors questions & concerns. Hope to see her back on the job next June on our return. You have some excellent staff & we hope they will be recognized as such!

A simply magical campsite. Because there is no hook up power it's just quieter. So you can hear the ocean.

We love love love this campground. It is well maintained and the camp host Roxanne was wonderful! When she was on duty she was out and about in the campground. Always smiling and offering assistance.

Site was nice. We have a big tent, which this site was not ideal for. A little more wild and well preserved than our neighbors.

Not for the faint of heart getting there. We had a 3 hour wait for the ferry plus the ride over. The campsites were clean and spacious.

We really enjoyed camping at the NPS campground at Ocracoke. Ironically, though, our most glorious day (no wind with temps nearing 70 degrees) after a sunset dip in the ocean and walk on the beach, was the least comfortable, once the sun got low and we were cooking on our Coleman. MOSQUITOES!!!! Yikes, there were swarms. Plus, once in the tent, I realized that some sort of sand insect (maybe? since they didn't look like mosquito bites) had covered my ankles with little red spots. I was surprised they didn't itch, though quite frightening to see! Don't mean to turn anyone off, just a warning that you want to be prepared with bug spray. That said, the following nights, the temps dropped into the 40s-50s and a strong breeze solved the skeeter discomfort. After a mosquito massacre purge of our tent the morning of day two, we slept like babies for three more nights. No hot water and no electricity or water at the actual campsite, but clean bathrooms (and cold showers for the brave!) We wished we had thought to bring an extension cord to use the outlet in the bathroom for boiling water in our electric tea kettle easily, but the Coleman stove did the trick. An especially affordable stay if you have a senior park pass! :^) Highly recommend especially off-season for a nature retreat so near the ocean! Just be aware that there aren't many shops open on the Island. We're happy campers!

Great spot right behind the dunes. No hookups which is good, keeps the crowds away but nice bathrooms and great rangers and hosts. Many mosquitoes at times but that should be expected. Nice walk/hike on the Hammock Hills trail. Accessing the beach is very easy either by vehicle with proper permit or on foot. The lighthouse is a must see with volunteers manning it Wed-Sat afternoons. Another hike is the Springers Point trail. The people at the visitor center were very friendly and knowledgeable. Our stay was extended because the weather made ferry traffic unsafe. So if you go keep an eye on the weather. Hurricanes and nor'easters can disrupt schedules. There are no big stores but you can find most necessities at the Variety Store.

Ocracoke campground is lovely. It is a place to unwind and relax. The stars are amazing. Takes hikes, ride bikes, the town is lovely with many places to grab a bite to eat. We especially like the visitor center and the local art. We come to Ocracoke to unwind, swim, fish and enjoy this quiet space. The Ocracoke Campground is several miles from town and all you hear at night are the waves crashing the shoreline. We've been here many times and we cherish this gem of a place! Remember to bring bug spray and sunscreen.

Very clean and well organized! Campsites were a comfortable distance apart. Only downside to the experience was the lack of hot water, but I knew that going in soooo, I cannot complain.

Loved our site! A short walk and we felt like we were at our own private beach! Loved listening to the ocean at night. The campground is set up so nice, with so much grass and shrubbery. Would love to stay here again.

Great site. Not completely level, but able to compensate. Nice spot behind the bushes before you get to the dunes to be able to put up a tent. Got reasonable signal on Verizon. Beach access is great at this campground. Potentially this particular spot would see alot of through traffic when the campground is busier since it seemed to be located near a through path for the dunes for the sites that do not back up to the dunes. Took the Hatteras ferry to the island, took the Swan Quarter ferry home. I imagine it would get hot here during the summer, but the early spring weather was beautiful. We biked to the pony pen (meh) and biked to Eduardo's food truck - YUM! Path just across the road from the campground - Hammock Hills - interesting place but partially closed due to damage. Fresh water and dump station, just beyond the campground on the opposite side of the street. Hose end is not threaded so didn't backwash.

Nice quiet campground. The bathrooms were clean and if you stay in a spot that is right on the other side of the dunes you can hear the waves crashing. Will definitely stay here again.

I lucked out on the site I got. It was right behind a sand dune, had a shrub for shade and was walking distance from the showers/restrooms. Other sites weren't as shaded, and certain sites lead to trails up to the sand dunes, where the beach is less than a 5-minute walk, if that. I would definitely come again. Oracacoke is scenic and has the necessities without feeling overcrowded or like a tourist town.

New roads and new level pads, water and dump out station still undergoing improvements. Showers need work, and cold showers means exactly that, no hot water available. Can’t access local host or ranger.
Beautiful location, easy access to endless memorable beaches.

The space between RV sites allows for a feeling of openness, and the generous size of the sites on the ocean side feels spacious. The VIP hosts were fabulously helpful. Great campground.

Due to Hurricane Teddy, high winds and extremely high tides the only road was closed on the north end of the island and in several places on Hatteras. Plus the ferries from Ocracoke to Swan Quarter and Cedar Island were not running. So we were stranded on Ocracoke. The camp host was great in changing our vehicle hang tag 3 times! The sea was rough but very beautiful. Overall we had a great time.
