I usually come here in early March when it's less busy and cooler but while it was definitely more crowded, it was still a great experience. Bonus: the showers were turned on! These are VERY basic seasonal (April-October) cold showers in an outdoor stall, not within the bathhouse, but I gave it a try and it was less traumatizing than expected. I was in campsite D007 - that side of the loop is my favorite. You can hear the ocean at night and it seems less buggy. Someone hoisted a pirate flag in the dune behind us, which I loved. People were nice and everyone was mindful of the quiet hours. I've been coming here for a few years now and it's a very chill campground, family oriented. My only complaint is that for some reason this time, there seemed to be a lot of dogs off leash. My dog can be fearful of some dogs so it was a bit stressful to constantly monitor the campground and the beach for loose dogs but thankfully there were not incidents. I just wish this was enforced a little better. As far as activities: the beach, first and foremost. Great shelling and not crowded, and you can walk forever. For me, that is the biggest draw. Ocracoke Village is 4 miles away and is very quaint, friendly people, local shops and restaurants and no chain stores at all, it's fun to check out. It can get busy with the small streets, lack of parking and golf carts so I usually just stay put at the campground. Hatteras Island is a 1-hour ferry ride away, if you feel like taking a trip within your trip.

Great campground, however, the path going to the beach forked and without signage led people to walk through the middle of our campsite to access the beach. Even though we had a tent, bikes, and multiple vehicles in our site, there was no signage telling people to use the other side of the fork in the path.

Excellent. Empty in winter, very close proximity to beach. Can hear ocean and walk there with in one minute.
And bathrooms ! Clean! Warm !

If your idea of a good time is heat, bugs, and occasional extreme weather, this is the place for you. It is an amazing privilege to enjoy this special place. We are so grateful for a generator-free loop for those of us who want to camp simply and enjoy the sounds of nature.

campsites are very good. The administration of them is "free form". the indoor enclosed showers need improvement. Otherwise overall pretty good

We loved being so close to the beach. The campground community was very friendly, especially our host, Austin. He was always available and extremely helpful to us. The showers were shockingly cold in spring, but the restrooms well-kept. No-see-ums were nasty if cloudy; pack the bug spray. Fortunately, they hate the sun and it is a beautiful sunny place to camp.

Beautiful location right on the dunes in Ocracoke. Park was well maintained!

Love the campground. Quite. Clean. Safe. Just a few short miles from the town of Ocracoke. Unlike Oregon Inlet's recent upgrades there are no hot showers nor electric/water sites. Very good beach access. You can hear the waves crashing from every site.
