Campground is beautiful and in a great location for hiking, biking, pedaling. However, be prepared for excessive fees for a govt campground. You will be charged $12 for the first and each extra vehicle (most all public camps allow 2 vehicles with the overnight fee) $10 extra for campers to use the septic dump, and you will not be allowed to park at the day use parking area within the campground for closer lake access without paying an additional day use fee at the campground entrance kiosk. In fact the campground hosts blocked us in the day use parking space with 2 golf carts and threatened to tow our vehicle from the day use parking when we parked there not knowing the fee rules, even though it was very empty. Your camping fee also does not cover entrance to the local public beaches run by the same operator. The campground has several showers and bathrooms but the bathrooms near us were closed during our stay for some reason and the shower building near us had 1 of the 4 stalls permanently locked and a second shower inoperable. We had a similar experience last year as well.

Weve been visiting Fallen Leaf for a few years and it never disappoints. The facility is managed well by the camp hosts and maintenance crew. Although we dont use the restrooms, the few times Ive entered them they are somewhat tidy despite the number of tent campers using them on a busy weekend. We enjoyed the lake on a busy holiday weekend and had a blast.

Momma bear and young cubs still acted wild.

I highly recommend Fallen Leaf Campground as a convenient and beautiful campground/lake to stay. The site was roomy with fire pit, picnic table, and a Bear Proof box. The bathroom were clean, water access and bear-proof garbage can nearby. The vegetation and trees were nice and comforting in sun. Parking place was paved and had room for 2 vehicles. Seniors with US National park Pass get 1/2 off on stay. However, if you park in day use parking lot for lake use or a swim and still have a campsite, you will be charged $12, so walk in from camp.

We stay at Fallen Leaf twice a year and always love it. Good hiking with several lake options. It is also the favorite location for our black lab.

Weve been camping here for over 30 years. Weve seen a lot of improvements, one of which they now have a bike trail from the campground over to the Tallac Historic Home and continuing down into camp Richardson. Sites are neatly prepped before your arrival. Camp hosts are very friendly.

Loved the campground. There was room between campsites and the lake is right there to swim in

Camp hosts were helpful. It was beautiful. It would be nice if there was no music heard from other campsites at night. We were glad that did not last very long.

This is a well maintained campground, friendly staff, very spacious and shady campsites and clean showers and bathrooms. This is my fifth time coming to this campground. I enjoyed each and every stay and would absolutely come back again.

We stayed in site 036, good site other than the the pad not being in good shape, with deep ruts in the front, had to use pads to fill low spots on top of using the jacks. The site info says the pad is 12' wide, but this is not the case, barely 10' at the widest spot. Site was clean with plenty of shade, small meadow to one side to put my solar panel in so I wouldn't need to run the genset. I can't say enough about the park staff, very friendly and helpful, as well as being accessible, and keeping the bathrooms and showers clean (we didn't need them). We have been to this park several times and the staff this year is exceptional.

I have camped here for the last 14 yrs, this is the first time that the bathrooms were not cleaned more than once, then the people cleaning the bathrooms told us that all 4 restrooms were being cleaned, instead of them cleaning 1 at a time which is what they did, they opened all 4 doors and we couldn't use them, and the water for showering was VERY HOT.
@ChrisM9524349 · Camped on Aug 18, 2025 at Campsite #168
What I appreciated most about this campground was the campground staff and their attention to detail. They are consistently cleaning the restrooms and monitoring the campground. Although the local ice machine should be repaired .

It was beautiful, spacious and affordable. The only thing is that the showers need to be paid and it only lasted 3 minutes.

Camping at Fallen Leaf Campground in August is always a delightful experience. We were fortunate enough to have spot 17, which offered a spacious area and a long circular driveway. While the spot was not perfectly level, we were able to make it work for our needs. The location was peaceful, although it was a bit of a distance from the lake. We did observe several bears in the vicinity, but thankfully, they maintained a safe distance. The weather was pleasant, with temperatures in the mid-80s. Unfortunately, cell phone coverage was limited, so we had to go to the lake or the store area to check our messages.

I love Fallen Leaf Campground, but I won't choose this site again. The bathroom and shower facility next to this site has doors that slam unless folks are very careful to close them quietly, and there's a light on all night - not great for tent campers. If the campground isn't going to make the doors quieter, this should probably just be an RV-only site.

Though close to the crowds of Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf was a relaxing, beautiful experience. Especially once we learned where to access the lake from the campground to use our kayaks. The campground host was visible and so friendly and helpful. Same thing with the staff at check in and the little store. Campers were very respectful and honored the quiet hours.

We loved the campsite very nice spot.

Fantastic campground. The sites are spacious and you feel like you are all alone at times. The only downside was the water faucets were all under siege by yellow jackets.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
