Fallen Leaf is a large, very spread out campground. It was quiet at all times (esp at night). Access to the campground by bike or walking trail (e.g. to Lake Tahoe) is very good. There was no cell coverage at our site. The restroom facilities are kept very clean and are adequate. No hot water or mirrors in the building we used near our site. Be aware that you MUST use the anit-bear locker to store all of your food, toiletries and anything else that could smell yummy for bears. That was a problem for us as we (2 people) use 2 electric coolers. We had room for 1 cooler and a power station to run it in the locker. The locker was bursting by the time we bear-proofed our campsite.

We thoroughly enjoyed Fallen Leaf. The biggest pain point was just that people got way to loud and worked up about bears. The bears were pretty comfortable wandering the camp grounds. That's fine. But people shouted and banged pots and even sounded air horns at 2 or 3 am. That's not necessary. The camp site was clean and beautiful and the lake is gorgeous!

Our favorite campground! Clean bathrooms! Bike trails! Easy access to lakes and creek!

Spent 3 nights at Fallen Leaf Campground. Our site had plenty of space, trees, a fire ring, BBQ, & picnic table. The staff is knowledgeable & friendly. The bathrooms are clean but most of the showers were out of order. There are many active bears at this campground. We didn’t see any bears the first 2 days and then had several sightings of different bears all in one morning on the 3rd day! We kept our distance and kept the food locked up when we weren’t eating & were left alone. We heard that a bear tried to get into the bear locker at another site before getting shewed away. Effective 6/15/21 the entire Tahoe Basin had a fire & charcoal ban, even in designated areas. Only those who bring propane grills and propane fire rings can cook during the ban. We still managed to have a great trip but bring a propane grill to cook your food.

Bears! Lock up your food. Good proximity to emerald bay and south lake tahoe and bike trail.
