Fallen Leaf Lake is very scenic and we enjoyed our stay there. HOWEVER, the volunteer hosts seem unwilling to enforce the rules. The site next to us had thirteen teenagers, despite limits of 6 per site. Limits of two RV s per site were similarly ignored. As a result of overcrowding, what facilities there are strained. Signs at the lake stated that belongings were not to be left overnight, but people routinely ignored this, leaving chairs and things to claim "their" stretch of beach when they were not there. Another problem is some sites like ours were a great distance from any bathroom.

Most scenic and peaceful campground I have ever been to. And the topper, the restrooms are the cleanest! Thank you to the staff who maintain it for us. The sites are away from other campers offering privacy. There is so much to do and explore right inside the campground, like walking around the lake or hanging at the beach and enjoying the waterfront or you can drive to the boat dock and waterfall. At dusk we usually head over to Emerald Bay where you will find no crowds or take one of the many nearby hikes. The best part of camping at Fallen Leaf is you can bring your dog. It wouldn't be camping without that special family member and they help if a bear strolls through your camp, which is very likely. Tip: bring small garbage bag liners, the size you'd use in your bathroom and that way you can throw away your trash right after you fill it. Don't leave ANYTHING behind for the bears because they are VERY active here. Don't eat in your tent and clear your car of smelly lotions, hand sanitizer or gum that you may forget because they will try and get in. We LOVE Fallen Leaf Campground. Thank you staff for maintaining it for our enjoyment.

My family and I have camped at Fallen Leaf every summer for 36 years. Over the past couple of years we have seen our favorite place go downhill because the park managers make no attempt to hold people to the "maximum 6 people per site" rule. Many sites had over 6 tents and upwards of 20 people staying there. The lake beach, bathrooms and roads are so crowded; traffic is even a problem now. It's unfair to enforce only one RV per site, but allow unlimited capacity for many with tents. After fighting the horrible recreation.gov reservation system, it's disappointing to see how little management is happening. The staff were pleasant, but need training on how to manage capacity.
