Each campsite should have a bear box. I was surprised when I arrived and did not have access to one. None of the EV chargers were working. As an owner of an EV who was excited at the opportunity to take it along on a camping trip, I was very disappointed to see the chargers at Big Meadows Wayside and Skyland covered with out of service notices.

My favorite place to camp. Whether solo or with my partner, I always have a great time. The sites are shady and pleasant, lots of hiking nearby, the meadow is amazing, and the lodge is great to hang out when the weather is less than perfect.

Wonderful landscapes, wonderful sites and close to the Appalachian trail. A place to see. And they have recycling bins so they encourage to avoid waste.

A094 was a nice spot. Close to the bathrooms and water, surrounded by bushes on 3 sides which provided some privacy (my vehicle covered most of the 4th side) and a nice level area for tents.

This site was not great for tents (very small flat or non gravel footprint to set up) and was shared the drive thru for the adjacent site (E175), where and RV was so we had to back in as to not block their exit. We were very close to the other campers. Not a good site unless you want both E175 and 174, then youd have a huge area to yourself!

Wonderful campground. We were in site F-202. The sites were well spaced out and our pull-thru was level. Lots of nice trails to hike. Dark Hollow Falls trail was especially nice - the waterfalls were amazing. The views from some of the trails (like behind the Lodge) were spectacular! We definitely hope to come back for another visit.

Their pristine campgrounds had nice amounts of trees and shrubs between the sites. The bear boxes were huge! But careful not to keep chocolate in there because it will melt in the summer. We did not know that you needed 20 quarters for a 10 min shower, but they did have change machines that take $1 and $5 - so bring small bills or quarters! Our favorite hike was Stony Man trail but stay on the Appellation Trail when it branches off. It's the road less traveled but still has stunning views. We hiked the Rose River Trail which was beautiful with 2 miles along side falls but very rough trail with lots of rocks and roots and 900+ ft elevation gain. Our favorite watering hole was the Skyland lodge's outdoor patio (dog friendly and had a bar or two of cell service for Verizon). The lodge has a Starbucks in the lobby and a wonderful gift shop. So many great overlooks, but we really enjoyed the Point Vista overlook just south of Big Meadows Visitor Center.

We love this campground and come back every year. It's great to have lots of trailheads nearby and the facilities are all in good shape. Some of the other campers at the campground forgot that quiet hours go until 6:00AM and were making lots of noise at 5:15AM, but that's how it goes sometimes with camping!

Clean, well maintained and Nice place to stay. Do not expect good internet connectivity. make use of internet at the lodge which is 2min drive away from campgrounds. There were tornado and thunderstorm warnings and severe weather during the time of our trip. So, Be prepared to face the nature! Enjoy !

We had a great time at the campground. The sites were very roomy and the staff was very nice. They helped us move to another site that accommodated our camper better. Its a beautiful campground and a beautiful park, we hope to come back and explore it some more.

Rain was an issue but the campground was great. Heated bathrooms with hot water were a Godsend in the rain!

Sorry to have had to cut our visit short to just one night due to trailer battery power issues. But, we've stayed before for longer and have always enjoyed our time. Really enjoyed seeing the tent sites fill up with various groups. Fun! We'll be back. Our favorite activity is hiking, of course. The snack bar seemed to have had a busy Memorial Day weekend as they were out of many things. At least that's what the computer touch screen told us.

Having camped at Big Meadows for over 25 years, I've found it the ideal place to introduce new enthusiasts to the outdoors. The generous amenities offered ease them into what I hope will be a lifelong love of outdoor adventures. The staff at Big Meadows consistently provide professional and attentive service, a remarkable feat given the campground's size and diverse clientele. We've always appreciated their timely attention to camper safety and needs, and the reservation system allows for easy long-term planning, contributing to our many positive experiences. After years of tent camping, this season marks our move to a small camper. Now, Big Meadows is serving as a valuable base as we prepare to explore backcountry camping. Our next goal is the Appalachian Trail, and we plan to utilize Big Meadows as our central point for sectional hikes in the coming year. Thank you for the wonderful service; we always leave with a touch of sadness, already anticipating our return. Please continue the excellent work!

Everything was as you would expect it - clean, fresh, and beautiful. All the facilities were immaculate, the staff were very courteous, and the traffic was horrendous! It was a holiday weekend with nice weather, so that was to be expected. We'll come back again!

beautiful campground. Love the way the walk-in tent sites are separated into the woods. The abundance of birds was neat, hearing them sing constantly. Sites were well equipped with a large food box and wood for a first night fire. Our hikes were enjoyable, the drive through the park breathtaking. We are looking forward to returning.

Great campground, very well maintained. Great facilities, clean, and trash taken out daily. Our campsite was on the corner which provided much more space than most campsites. Grass was mowed and paths throughout the campground. Wil return soon!

The campground was great with the lodge and wayside both near for food, supplies, gifts and firewood. It's also near one of the visitor centers. My only gripe is the cost for showers. There is only one option of $5 for 10 minutes of water time.
@AnaisJ5D4D9E54 · Camped on May 23, 2025 at Campsite #143
was great except we bought wood there and it was wet and we could not start the fire and wasted like 10 of our fire starters lol! I would have complained cuz the wood was $10 but the money is going to the national parks anyway so I do not care about the money. we were just cold and had no food to eat because the wood was wet and we could not get out fire started.

We had a lovely time at Big Meadows! The campground was beautiful and we'd highly recommend site A67. The campground was close to all the main hikes we were interested in and we'll definitely be coming back!

Wonderful campsites and beautiful campground

This campground is fantastic. It was amazing as always the Wednesday and Thursday nights I stayed before Memorial Weekend. Friday night was where it went south. The loud talk, barking dogs, and screaming crotch fruits harshed my mellow on what was otherwise another good Big Meadows experience.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
