We camped here on Veteran's Day (Tuesday) and the day after (Wednesday). The bathrooms on E loop were open on Tuesday and early Wednesday morning. They were closed sometime later Wednesday morning. Not a super big deal, just meant you had to walk a little farther for the bathrooms. Many, many years ago, Big Meadows was open through the end of November. It had been closing on Veteran's Day for many years; however, this year they extended the closing to the end of November. Many, many years ago when we would camp at Big Meadows during the week of Veteran's Day, E loop and the other older (original) loops were closed. The loops were open, but the bathrooms closed. The bucks were definitely chasing after the does.

Our site was beautiful and campground was nice. We would've liked to have known that none of the water within the campground was turned on as we would have filled up at the dump station prior to getting settled. Unfortunately, we had terrible weather. Would come again in warmer months.

Awesome views, close to the meadow for stargazing, and the nearby trails were peaceful.

What a beautiful place! All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Our site was lovely and the park was huge. Can't wait to return

Big Meadows is the biggest campground in Shenandoah National Park. With that being said, it can be like camping in the city. Even though some of the bathrooms are older, they were clean and functional. Take advantage of the Big Meadow and do some star gazing while you are there. Be advised the showers cost money; so, have your quarters ready if you want a shower. When we were there, it was $5.00 for 10 minutes.

We loved our stay at Big Meadows. The location close to the visitor’s center was particularly helpful as we often drove by late at night or early morning to use the wifi, fill up on water, and use a cleaner bathroom. This particular campsite was huge and definitely meant for an RV but we found a cozy spot for our tent and loved the Mountain View through the trees. That being said, this E section of the campground felt extremely open with little privacy from everyone around you, this site was one of the best spots around as it was huge and faced the Appalachian trail and the mountains. We opted not to use the bear box and kept everything in the car because it seemed to house a massive nest of earwigs. We also did enjoy having access to showers in the campground, $5 for 10 minutes was well worth it after a couple long, hot days.

Great campground! Neat and comfortable. We picked one of the best sites, next to Appalachian trail and were able to talk to many through hikers!

Fall foliage camping trip. Excellent location (although, the foliage peak came earlier than expected).

The uniqueness of this campground is enhanced by the lodge and its amenities. We were able to hang out there during heavy rains which was a real relief. We felt the E Loop was a bit crowded for all the sites available. It seemed like we could almost touch the other campers it was that close (our site E180 was certainly an exception). Good hiking and vistas of the mountains. Overall, a very good experience.,

Freiendly Rangers. Sites closer to level than anywhere else in the Park (though it's still quite easy to get a non-level site. Price is exceptional, especially if you have a Pass. If you're staying in the Park, this is the best campground.

We had E180 RV site it had the best view of the mountains in the campground. Definitely will return to this site . The site is overlooking the Appalachian trail. I would recommend Blue Ridge Brewery, great food and beer. Not a far drive from Big Meadows.

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
