Overall very good experience, even though I stayed at the campground, the views from the lodge were great!

The campground had nice and clean facilities and very helpful rangers on hand. The booking process was fairly simple and easy. The area is lovely and we really enjoyed having the restaurant/store nearby for some cold adult beverages and blackberry ice cream. The proximity to great trailers and vistas was also really nice. The camping area itself was clean and sufficient for our overnight needs. All of that said, we would not stay here again because it is a popular place for large trucks, RVs and loud people. The drive-in component is handy for logistics, but I find that people who typically drive in to campgrounds do NOT adhere to the same considerations as avid backpacking campers do. Our 'neighbors' were literally in and out of their vehicle for hours on end. Each time they opened a car door, their headlights came on automatically and shined directly onto our campsite. To say it was obnoxious is an understatement. It was highly inconsiderate and showed a total disregard for other campers. We finally asked them to turn off their headlights and had no trouble after that. We stayed on a cold night, which we were prepared for. However, other tent campers were clearly NOT prepared and there were a lot of folks sleeping in cars, which they would turn on and off all night to crank the heaters. Again, unbelievably disturbing in an area where there is no other sound pollution and none of us have insulation against noise due to tents. Way too many people, way too much noise for our enjoyment. If you're pulling an RV, this is your place. Enjoy!

We had a wonderful stay at Big Meadows Campground. There were several campers who seemed unfamiliar with the process of starting a camp fire with unseasoned wood. Most of them did not have hatchets or knowledge of kindling. I think an information sheet available with each bundle of wood sold at the park, showing how to use the wood and have a fire instead of a smoke storm would make the camping experience more pleasant for everyone
