We camp at Big Meadows every year. Our kids love unplugging and hanging out in hammocks, biking around the campground and hiking. For a short easy hike with a great view walk up to the Black Rock overlook next to Big Meadows Lodge.

Nice campground no hookups parking a little close for us but it worked. Bath house was clean, pay showers were a little odd so bring lots of quarters.Deer walk right up to you no fear, lots of warning about Bear but we did not see any

Sites are small, not a lot of room for a tent.

As avid hikers, we loved the fact that there were trails directly from the campground to many varying locations. I would recommend bringing your bicycle for a ride to the nearby waystation, visitor center or for a visit to the Lodge. The mountains can be 10 degrees cooler, so I was happy to have packed along a sweater shirt and long pants.

Overall a great campsite. A little bit compact but the location is really convenient and quite. Notice that there is no storage locker for this campsite.

Mooie camping in mooi park.Echter een nadeel, iedereen heeft meerdere auto's die allen op slot gaan met een piepje, dus geen rust op de camping

Site E191 really shouldn't be an RV site. I didn't realize until a couple of days prior that the fine print of this site says it doesn't support "drivers side slideouts" - what RV doesn't have driver side slideouts? It also doesn't support opening the canopy on the passenger side! We made the site work satisfactorily with a 36 ft travel trailer with the ability to open our back slide fully and the main slide about half way so we could use the interior space, just with less room. It wasn't great not being able to open our canopy but we had a separate popup tent that served the purpose of covering our stuff when it rained the first night we arrived.Definitely a "last resort" RV spot that you can make with with a fairly large RV if necessary.

Big Meadows campground was clean. Campsites were situated with enough spacing and easy RV access. Bathroom facilities were clean and well maintained. Despite having to pay $2.50 for a shower the bath house was very clean, water was hot, the $2.50 time allotted was sufficient for a full shower.Park itself was awesome. Even with most of a week here we only got to explore such a small amount of the park - basically the Big Meadow, Skyland, and Mathews Arm areas. There are wonderful hikes, waterfalls, helpful park rangers, great maps, and trails for all levels including our need for those which are fairly easy. What a huge park! Clouds and fog were beautiful. Just driving through the park for the many, many overlooks requires a long time due to the winding roads. We will hope to get back for the Loft Mountain and Lewis Mountain areas.

A very nice campground. Staff were friendly and helpful (thanks for the jump start on our dead battery when we left!) and everything was very clean. The only reason it gets less than a 5-star review is because the campsites are SO SMALL. Thank goodness we were on an outer loop - the inner ones are really only good for RVs/campers all packed in close together. Our site was very crowded - tent pad was VERY close to the fire as was the picnic table. Some sites looked like a tent wouldn't fit at all. Looking for just tent camping in the future, I would choose either E-loop sites 175-187 (right on the edge - very pretty view beyond) or the tent-only walk-in camp sites in the A-Loop (be aware that 1-14 are right next to the road coming in).
