Everything from the road to the reservoir to the campsite was absolutely beautiful. The water wasn't too cold or hot and the trail that loops the lake is really varied and fun! Campsites are clean. Words to the wise, the road is pretty scary if you don't have experience with a one lane, narrow mountain road. And the campsites are pretty close together with one parking spot and no lot so larger groups may have trouble. For my solo trip, it was fantastic!

Site #10 is a wonderful spot for privacy and relaxation.The only slightly uncomfortable aspect, in our opinion, was the access to the site. Its located on a sort of mini-island, so you need to park your car in the parking lot and carry all your belongings about 150 meters down a narrow path. This was a bit inconvenient, especially with large items like a full-size cooler or a portable grill.Other than that, we truly enjoyed the site. Theres a private trail leading down to the lake, and you can choose from several different access points. Some of them have fallen trees that make getting in a bit tricky, but others offer an easy and completely private way to enter the water and swim.This is not a walk-through site people dont pass by, so it feels very secluded. The view of the lake is absolutely stunning. We loved watching the sunset and welcoming the sunrise from this spot.One more thing to note: even though the site is rated for two cars and six people, we barely managed to fit our large 12-person tent. Space was very tight, and the entrance of our tent ended up facing a bush that we had to walk around to get in and out.There were also a lot of bees, black wasps, and bumblebees around, so be sure to bring repellent and take precautions if you want to stay protected. Another big advantage of this slightly remote island-like setup was that we were able to let our dog off-leash. Throughout our stay, he was free to roam around the campsite without being tethered, and he never wandered far. It made the experience even more enjoyable for both us and our pup. We would gladly come back here again next year.

We love Giant Gap. We have been coming here for almost 40 years! Most of the campsites are large enough for a trailer, and all have at least one spot for a tent. There is a trail all the way around the lake, half of which is paved. The lake is wonderful for swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding. Because of heavy storms the last few years, and (maybe) pine bark beetles, there a lot of downed trees; Huge logs and piles of them in some places. But there is still plenty of tree cover at the sites. Of course, getting a site close to the water is optimum!

The campground was quiet, and pristine!

We love this campground. The reservoir was quite full this time of year. Lots of insects, bring bug spray. The campground host said the hosts will not be selling firewood. (Budget cuts?) We drove back into Forest Hill and none of the stores had firewood! Be prepared for that. All in all a great site!

We love this campground. Site 11 had a beautiful view of the reservoir. This spot was difficult to maneuver with the camper. Probably should just be a tent site since when you back the trailer in you are facing away from the site My only complaint was that the camp post ran their generator a lot. We started each morning listening to it for about three hours and ended the evening listening to it for at least three more hours. Perhaps they couldve run it consistently across the middle of the day? Otherwise it was a perfect stay.

Site 15 is HUGE! Pull through at top for large trailer and three level tent sites. Campground is very clean, quiet and the reservoir is perfect for non-motorized watercraft. The bathrooms were a little smelly though!

Been coming here since the mid Eighties. Love Giant Gap camp grounds. Always have a great time. Find a great spot by the lake and relax.

Stayed in double site 26. Site is narrow for 2 RVs and tree on the side of the driveway should be trimmed. Site is sunnier than it use to be because numerous trees have been cut throughout the site and tree trunks are stacked up everywhere. Wood blocks tent areas and completely blocks main trail down to the lake.

Beautiful lake and campground was very nice. Very quiet after 10 p.m. Only problem was the pump out station. Dont count on it to be available. We were able to pump out our small Lance travel trailer but near the end of pumping, it started overflowing onto the pavement. The 2 trailers behind us were not able to use it. Also there are 2 spaces to pump out but one of the faucets was out of service.

Pit toilet doors will not close near site 18. Otherwise, clean. Short distance to the lake. Unfortunately, I didnt get to stay the night due to my dog getting sick and had to take him home for emergency care.

This location is beautiful. Water activities, hiking around the lake, shade at some sights. The bathrooms the full first day were not well maintained though if you hold your nose and bring your own TP youll be fine. Starting around dusk, there were gun shots all around the lake, which was disruptive to the calm, nature setting and our sleep.

Love the lake! It kept us cool while it was over 100 dgs on 4th of July weekend. Perfect for paddleboarding. It is a max 3mph lake and unfortunately there were a few people that disregarded that, but that was not the fault of our campground. We have been coming here for 35 years. Never disappoints. They are slowly improving the pit toilets. We had a bear in camp; bear boxes are provided and obviously recommended. Paved trail around half the lake is good for biking.

Absolutely awesome spot to campAll the campsites are well-maintained, restrooms clean. Great hike around the lake takes about 2 hours to complete with plenty of spots to stop and take a dip. The water temperature for swimming is perfectBe aware that there is poison oak in the area so if you have a little ones, make sure you keep an eye on them. Make sure you pack, what you know youre gonna need. If you do forget and need additional supplies, the town of Forest Hill is about 20 miles away. Not a big inconvenience, but definitely helps to be fully prepared.

The reservoir and the trails were awesome.However, the fallen trees all around the camping area was a total nuisance. The downed trees took away so many water bank accesses that it took away the natural beauty of camping being near the waters edge to enjoy its splendor.In addition, it was sad to see that so many trees were removed from the camping areas. I hope the tree service will be replanting additional trees to replace the ones removed.

Nice mellow lake, great for paddle board exploring. Fit 3 small tents and two hammocks at our site.

We really like this campground. Nice family atmosphere. Great trail around the lake and perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding. Plenty of areas for swimming. Site 22 was near the water with a trail leading straight to the shore! Many of the trees in 22 are gone and there is longer a place to put a hammock like the photo shows. This also means a lot less shade. From 2:00 on the site is in direct sun so bring an easy up. Water spigot is across from the site and the restrooms were a short walk.

The most recent photo doesn't show what it actually looks like there. When we got there, someone else had taken over our spot. They stated the camp host told them it wasn't reserved. So we had to wait even longer for it to be resolved. There's bees everywhere so that was unfortunate to my son who is highly allergic.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
