Pit toilet doors will not close near site 18. Otherwise, clean. Short distance to the lake. Unfortunately, I didnt get to stay the night due to my dog getting sick and had to take him home for emergency care.

Nice mellow lake, great for paddle board exploring. Fit 3 small tents and two hammocks at our site.

Really lovely campground. Pretty hike around the lake. Our campground was up to 6 campers, and the tent site was rather small (#7). It was just two of us so no biggy, but definitely use the tool on Recreation.gov to view the pics of the sites if you're taking a bigger group, as some of the sites were HUGE. It looked like every campsite had a fire ring, picnic table, bear box, and at least one flat 4-person tent space.
Camphosts are shared between Shirttail and Giant Gap depending on the day, but whoever is on duty will sell firewood. Vault toilets frequently throughout campground. Potable water spouts, some reviews said it was stinky, we thought it was fine enough. End of May had a whole lotta bugs - we brought spray but if we come back we'll bring a lamp/citronella candles, so we don't need to have the fire going as much to keep them at bay.
If you are coming from Sacramento, Foresthill exit to Sugar Pine for an easy/pretty drive. If you take the Canyon Way exit, the first half of Iowa Hill is pretty windy, severe inclines, and thin without guardrails - it was harrowing in a 4WD CRV, you could not tow an RV/boat on that route safely

Camped here in July of last year. This campsite is great! Every spot has at least some shade and pretty scenery. The camp host was super helpful and engaging.
