Located up in a remote peaceful ,great lake scenic view. Mesmerizing stargazing. Campsites are well enough apart from each other. Hiking trail, fishing, swimming, ferry boat, just some of the recreation activities as well as fire pits with grill ready for your over the fire meals or smores. Food, drinks, snacks board-games, hygiene products, fishing rods, some vehicle maintenance items are available in the 5 min walking distance cozy shop with a Caf. Be prepared to drive thru about 15min of terrain. It's not too rough as there was small sedans, teslas, just watch out for small potholes, bumps. Driving at speed limit will get you in and out safely.

The camp host and other campers at this site were so kind. We stayed at site #22 for three nights. We felt safe, got some great food at the resort near by and even hiked to Mono Hot Springs from camp. Highly recommend!

It's a very nice campground. The bathrooms are clean for pit toilets. The campsites are not on top of each other. The camp host Robert is great. The one negative comment I have is that the bear boxes are too small. I couldn't fit my 30qt cooler in the bear box.

Campground is small, clean, and fairly well maintained. It is remote, although having the hiker resort and store nearby helps. The problem is the road to get there. A couple of miles past Huntington lake, the road is 1 lane, very crooked and poorly maintained. I wouldn't attempt it again without a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Here are the pros and cons on this campsite: Pros-most sites are lake view-peaceful-you can stargaze-away from any kind of pollution- the host, Robert, was a great guy Cons-one way narrow road going to the site, extremely difficult for beginner drivers, needs to have an AWD or 4x4 car or a hogh clearance car- it is far away from national parks -got a lot of curves on the wayOverall it was a great experience stay there for 2 nights.

This was my second time camping at Vermilion and its one of my favorite campgrounds. We had 28 & 29 at the end of the loop, with plenty of room to spread and gorgeous views of the lake. The bathrooms were super clean and the camp host was friendly.

Vermillion campground is a really beautiful spot and we really enjoyed our stay. Road in is pretty scary but we did fine in an old suburu station wagon with all wheel drive. Lots of things to do here - beautiful hikes (especially if you take the ferry across the lake and hike part of the PCT), river fishing and kayaking on the lake. Mono creek across the lake is a really beautiful stream with places to fish right at the mouth on to the lake. We also found cold creek a lovely spot to fish and hike within a mile or two of the campsite on the same side of the lake. The people working at Vermillion Valley Resort are very friendly and its an easy walk from the campsite to get a limited number of groceries, a hot meal and charge up your phone or kindle for free. They also have showers, laundry facilitues and internet access for a fee (but I camp to get away from all those things!). You take the ferry across the lake from there, and they rent kayaks. We also really enjoyed talking to the interesting folks hiking the PCT who come to VVR to re-provision, grab a shower and eat a hearty meal! It was hot and bright blue skies during the day but surprisingly very cold at night in mid-June so make sure you have a good sleeping bag. The lake and rivers were also icy cold so swimming is not for the faint of heart (we dipped a few times to clean up but only managed to really swim one time!). Light polution is virtually non-existant so star-gazing is also amazing here. Mono hot springs is back along the road about 7 miles and they have fancier amenities including massages etc, a larger shop, restaurant and other hikes, fishing etc, but it was more civilized and not really what we came for. Overall Vermillion campsite is a great place to spend some down time and we highly recommend.

This spot is sort of in the center of the first big curve. You'll need to walk about 50 feet to the camping area from your parking spot. There are large boulders right near the campfire and the spot is generally protected from wind. It was a great stay, with an easy walk to the lodge if you need anything.

The Camp Host does an excellent job at maintaining this campground. Out of all the places we have been this is by far the cleanest. You cant go wrong with picking any site here as they are all good.

Beautiful campground and resort nearby, definitely recommended. The drive to the site was not as bad as other comments seemed, definitely bumpy and recommended with a high clearance vehicle. But i enjoyed the trip. Site 25 is great with a nice shading but there is a FAT hill from the car to campfire and tables haha

Robert is an absolute rockstar of a campground host, you will not find cleaner pit toilets anywhere, it's amazing what he manages to do with what he is allowed, especially how dated the infrastructure is.Facility amenities are very dated and no love from our government has been shown this place in decades - many many improvements are needed to make this place more hospitable.
@DavidB5075483 · Camped on Jul 31, 2024 at Campsite #14
The campsites are generous the area is gorgeous the VVR is right there with food showers ice etc. The Kaiser road is tolerable until the turnoff to Edison. After that it is terrible.

This location is absolutely beautiful! The last 7 miles of the drive to the lake keeps the faint of heart from visiting it. We will make this a regular camping/hiking destination for us every year!

Nice campsite by the lake. The road in was a bit hairy but we made it and had a good time.

Beautiful campsite. Bathrooms were really clean and surprisingly good smelling for vault toilets. Bear box was a little short to be able to get one of our ice chests in.

Do NOT book site 24 during the summer!! They cut down the huge tree in it and now there is 0 shade, like literally 0. We ended up having to move to a different site since it was unbearable. The host was very nice and accommodating and helped us figure out if we were able to move to a site with more shade. The bathrooms were clean, lots of water available, and the sites (not 24 lol) were well maintained. Will definitely be back as the resort being close by offered fun things to do like renting kayaks, boats, delicious food at the cafe, and people from all walks of life!

The campsite is great, the road in is HELL. $1500 tow bill for the potholes for the section from the Mono Hot springs to Mono overflow. We thought the road was bad in 2023? 2024 was jaw dropping. Rumor has it the Forest Service felt paving some Jackass campground parking lot was the priority (strange, because both campsites with a name like that in Sierra National have been closed for years.) and decided to let the potholes go. The section of the road is super narrow, so if you take the potholes slow.... you will loose traction with all the granite sand on the SUPER steep section. Rent something with AWD/4WD and a high clearance.My only other tip is bring pop-ups as we heard A LOT of people complaining about the lack of shade. We bought two and funny, we were fine.The campsite itself is fine, love the easy access to the delicious dinners at VVR, and the lake is wonderful!

Campground is fine and in a very beautiful area. Local hiking is wonderful. Additionally, the food at the Vermillion Valley Resort next door is excellent. I would give this place 5 stars, but the road to get there is horrible (especially after Mono Hot Springs) and takes literally hours to go from Huntington Lake to Lake Edison due to the single lane road and the potholes (10 mph road for 20 miles) I would not take anything less than an SUV over this road. It is in a primitive location.

Rob, the camp host was exceptional, he's personable, an expert on the area, and a hard worker. The toilets were spotless. Please get jackass meadows open again thx

We had a great time at this campsite. It's super remote which is cool but once you get there, the campsite is nice too. The camp host offered us some free brisket the first night which was fantastic, and overall it was a well kept and beautiful location.

Great campground, well maintained, clean and beautiful. Enjoyed my stay very much with some good hikes. Tge road in is a negative with huge potholes and very difficult to navigate.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
