Vermillion campground is a really beautiful spot and we really enjoyed our stay. Road in is pretty scary but we did fine in an old suburu station wagon with all wheel drive. Lots of things to do here - beautiful hikes (especially if you take the ferry across the lake and hike part of the PCT), river fishing and kayaking on the lake. Mono creek across the lake is a really beautiful stream with places to fish right at the mouth on to the lake. We also found cold creek a lovely spot to fish and hike within a mile or two of the campsite on the same side of the lake. The people working at Vermillion Valley Resort are very friendly and its an easy walk from the campsite to get a limited number of groceries, a hot meal and charge up your phone or kindle for free. They also have showers, laundry facilitues and internet access for a fee (but I camp to get away from all those things!). You take the ferry across the lake from there, and they rent kayaks. We also really enjoyed talking to the interesting folks hiking the PCT who come to VVR to re-provision, grab a shower and eat a hearty meal! It was hot and bright blue skies during the day but surprisingly very cold at night in mid-June so make sure you have a good sleeping bag. The lake and rivers were also icy cold so swimming is not for the faint of heart (we dipped a few times to clean up but only managed to really swim one time!). Light polution is virtually non-existant so star-gazing is also amazing here. Mono hot springs is back along the road about 7 miles and they have fancier amenities including massages etc, a larger shop, restaurant and other hikes, fishing etc, but it was more civilized and not really what we came for. Overall Vermillion campsite is a great place to spend some down time and we highly recommend.

The Camp Host does an excellent job at maintaining this campground. Out of all the places we have been this is by far the cleanest. You cant go wrong with picking any site here as they are all good.

Nice campsite by the lake. The road in was a bit hairy but we made it and had a good time.

The campsite is great, the road in is HELL. $1500 tow bill for the potholes for the section from the Mono Hot springs to Mono overflow. We thought the road was bad in 2023? 2024 was jaw dropping. Rumor has it the Forest Service felt paving some Jackass campground parking lot was the priority (strange, because both campsites with a name like that in Sierra National have been closed for years.) and decided to let the potholes go. The section of the road is super narrow, so if you take the potholes slow.... you will loose traction with all the granite sand on the SUPER steep section. Rent something with AWD/4WD and a high clearance. My only other tip is bring pop-ups as we heard A LOT of people complaining about the lack of shade. We bought two and funny, we were fine. The campsite itself is fine, love the easy access to the delicious dinners at VVR, and the lake is wonderful!

Lovely stay as always! Love the area and the bathrooms were always clean. Wish the bear boxes were bigger and that there was a shovel and bucket to empty fire pit.
