Houchins Ferry Campground is very clean and the bathrooms were extra clean. We were very impressed. You were almost right on the water. Will be going back. Thank you.

Very small sites, very close together. Lots of noise from locals hanging out at pavilion.

5 star experience depending on other campers. Its small. So one rowdy bunch can ruin everyones experience. Water hydrant and large portable toilets. Sets right on the river so fishing is easy, but with the locks removed the river has dropped substantially.

Loved the big trees at the campground. Spaces are somewhat close together and only porta potties for bathrooms, but that didnt detract from the experience. We really enjoyed our stay.

The porter potties were clean. We stayed on site 1 which was nice cause we had one side where no one good set up camp. The sites are very close. There was no view of the river because bushes and trees have grown. But it was nice and quiet and secluded.

Lovely small campground with beautiful surroundings. The portable toilets were very clean and well maintained. No nearby amenities so be prepared with all your the food/supplies you will need for your night camping. GPS directions were accurate.

We loved our stay at Houchins Ferry Campground! The campsites were pretty close together, but everyone was very respectful and mindful of the noise they were making. The campground is just a short drive to the visitor center, and a short drive to town which has a gas station with firewood and anything else you might need for your stay. We would definitely stay again!

The campsite was a 20 minute drive from the Mammoth Cave Visitor Center, which we found very reasonable for the price. The campsite was very small, and each campsite was packed right next to each other, but there was potable water and I was quite surprised by how clean the portapottys were. Like it wasn't perfect and probably could have been emptied once, but the stall itself was quite tidy there was no shortage of tp or hand sanitzer.

Basic campground. The bathrooms were clean and stocked, nice for portalets. The potable water was cold, easily accessible, and tasted good. Campsites were well laid out and plenty of space for everyone. Access to the river for fishing was nice. Good to see the ranger come by and chat with us. We enjoyed our camping experience at this site. Could have used a little more space between campsites.

Nice spot by the river. A standard Federal camp ground. Be aware that if your vehicle is 'hill climb' challenged that there is a pretty steep hill on the way out. There is also PI that you need to watch out for.

I had been wanting to stay at Houchins Ferry for a few years and finally made it happen. We stayed at Campsite #10 which was really close to the other campsites but we knew that ahead of booking. We brought our kayaks and put in at Houchins Ferry and took out at Brownsville. It took a couple hours but the water was flowing and we did not have to do a lot of paddling. We also took a tour at Mammouth Cave and enjoyed a campfire each night. Overall a relaxing and enjoyable time!

I loved it at Houchin Ferry. Driving in made you feel like you were leaving everything behind. The area along the river was gorgeous. The picnic tables were good and sturdy. The campsites were a good size. The area was nice and clean. It was the perfect place to stay on our wintery trip to Mammoth Cave. Do take note, this is primitive camping. There was nothing there but our tent site, picnic table, and fire pit. But don't worry, Bucee's clean bathrooms are only 20 minutes away

I enjoyed my experience at the Houchin campground; it was (almost) empty while I was there, so it was quiet, which is precisely what I was looking for.

Campsite was wonderful, amenities are as described. The only reason for the poor rating of my experience was that another camper in the campground made us feel uncomfortable and we had to leave soon after setting up.

I've been camping at Houchin Ferry since I was a child and I've always loved it. The location is great, the actual campsites are wonderful, and they stay on the upkeep. My only complaint is the road to get there, it's narrow and winding with sharp inclines and declines. Otherwise I'm definitely a fan, I don't really camp anywhere else.

I stay at Houchin Ferry several times a year. The only complaint I have with this Mammoth Cave campground is that it is the only NPS campground I have visited, and there have been many, that does not have a lights- out policy. As a matter of fact it has a light that actually comes on at dusk and remains on the entire night. It is a holdover from when there was a ferry running there that has been gone approximately fifteen years. This is especially annoying when I go on a new moon night in order to see all the stars.
@KylieKF055FCD5 · Camped on Oct 20, 2024 at Campsite #3
Sites 1-4 are terrible. They are positioned so close it's like you are eating dinner with your neighbor. The on-site portable toilet's were not well maintained. I would definitely not recommend staying here.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
