Great pre spring weather, nice site, accessible to Mammoth Cave Visitor Center simple.

We loved our stay at Houchins Ferry Campground! The campsites were pretty close together, but everyone was very respectful and mindful of the noise they were making. The campground is just a short drive to the visitor center, and a short drive to town which has a gas station with firewood and anything else you might need for your stay. We would definitely stay again!

Basic campground. The bathrooms were clean and stocked, nice for portalets. The potable water was cold, easily accessible, and tasted good. Campsites were well laid out and plenty of space for everyone. Access to the river for fishing was nice. Good to see the ranger come by and chat with us. We enjoyed our camping experience at this site. Could have used a little more space between campsites.

Nice spot by the river. A standard Federal camp ground. Be aware that if your vehicle is 'hill climb' challenged that there is a pretty steep hill on the way out. There is also PI that you need to watch out for.

Beautiful campsite great for bird watching.

Campsite was wonderful, amenities are as described. The only reason for the poor rating of my experience was that another camper in the campground made us feel uncomfortable and we had to leave soon after setting up.

20 minutes from the cave tours, this is a perfect campground. Beside it is the green river which allows for all kinds of recreational activities as well as being beautiful. The bugs arent anything out of the norm for a campsite, and the built in grill to the fire pit makes for a great primal cooking environment. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to go explore somewhere new and incredible.

Clean campsite and area, beautiful views, clean toilets, and nice ranger that came by to verify campground info and check in. What a beautiful place!

Quiet and away from the hustle.

Campground is charming (great river views) and feels remote despite being close to town. However, the sites themselves are quite small (not a problem for us because we went in late November and it was not crowded). But our first night, two of the three other occupied sites were quite loud and with no hosts or rangers coming to check on the campground, the noise was quite disruptive until very late into the night. There was also a bit of garbage left around - cigarette butts, etc.

The row of campsites by the water were extremely small and close together. With our car fully parked in our site we could barely fit our Tent. There were composite logs that had come apart in rain that had turned to saw dust at our campsite that was not taken care of before we arrived. There were no campsite hosts here, neighbors were loud partying until late into the night and no one was around to stop them. There are a few nicer campsites by the treeline if you must stay here. Overall this campground was disappointing and unpleasant.

Beautiful place for my first time camping in years as a solo female traveler. Safe, gorgeous especially with the fireflies at night; the woods were practically glittering. Plenty of places to hammock and an easy entrance to the creek if you wanted to kayak or something. Relatively clean outhouses and potable water.

The campsite and facilities were clean. Rangers drove thru daily. Nice spot on river; kids enjoyed fishing. 15-20 minute drive to Mammoth Cave visitors center. Wish the sites were a bit larger, but otherwise great tent campsite.

The campsite was a stone's throw from the 4+ porta potties. There are no trails to hike without going back to the Mammoth Cave Visitor's Center. I should have checked out the trail availability before. My daughter and I had just arrived and proceeded to unload the car and set up the tent. An older man in an older car parked in the loop and watched us. He started his vehicle and moved another car link closer. I finally asked, "Can I help you with something?" He said he was just watching us set up our tent. Creepy. He finally drove off telling us to "have a good night". We packed up and left.

Houchin ferry campground is perfect for anyone who wants to do any actual primitive camping. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in that. We had zero cell phone service (Verizon) for about a 40 mile radius. Our camping neighbors had Sprint and they said they had one bar of service in certain spots. Luckily my car was wifi compatible that used AT&T towers. We were able to get around the area and look up the different places we wanted to go using that. I highly recommend planning your trip out in advance and bringing paper or printed out maps of how to get places. This campground was right off of the Green River and was a pleasant sound to wake up to and fall asleep to as well. The bathrooms are Porta-pottys and are exactly as you would expect them to be. Bring your own TP for your most comfort. This campsite is said to be for tents only but we did see people with scampers on the back of trucks. It is only 15 minutes from Mammoth Cave Visitor center and a short drive from many other awesome caves as well. 5 minutes away from a small grocery store and a gas station for essentials. We will definitely be back to this one for sure next time we visit.

Great small primitive campground and very close to where I live. Still has bathroom access and porta potties were very clean.

Would very much like to see the return of first-come, first-serve to the campground. Also, will be happy when people return to work and school. Have always loved the solitude of this site.
