5 star experience depending on other campers. Its small. So one rowdy bunch can ruin everyones experience. Water hydrant and large portable toilets. Sets right on the river so fishing is easy, but with the locks removed the river has dropped substantially.

I believe people using primitive campgrounds are looking for a different experience that full service campgrounds. Isolation, solitude and natural surroundings are keys and Houchins Ferry delivered these. The discounted fee with my interagency pass was also a factor.

Beautiful area, no rocks or logs to pound stakes in that i could find(bring hammer). Theres a group shelter area with dual fireplaces to hang out in as well. Bathrooms were also very clean

We had campsite # 11 and we were a bit confused what part of our campsite area was ours to pitch our tent . We were concerned that we may set up in campsite #10s area. It wasnt a huge deal but maybe suggest putting out markers. Overall the campsite was nice and we had a great time. We will definitely camp there again.

Overall stay wasnt bad, there wasnt specific direction on where to check into our campsite. Before we went to our designated tour we asked some employees in the general store area and post office located at the mammoth cave park. And neither employees knew where we check into the Houchin Ferry Campground. We never checked in and I had to show park rangers my original reservation that we had the spot reserved. Overall not a bad experience, but maybe having a check-in area at the campsite would be more beneficial. Just have 1-2 employees stay there for 3-5 hours for check in times-check out times.

The place was awesome! By far deserves 5 stars. Close enough to society to get things you need but far enough away to feel isolated. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was or experience was next to college kids that did not follow the quote rule after 10. Me and my wife were hoping for some peace and we did not. If you are reading this review the place is worth renting. However get spot 8, 9 or 10 (best spots to rent)

decent campground, no complaints. When I made my reservation, Hochlin was the only 1 that had openings. But when I arrived at MCNP, the main campground had plenty of openings, even though online it had showed no vacancies on my date. I would have preferred staying at the main campground.

The campground is absolutely beautiful. The disappointments are that there is no firewood to purchase, no cold water shower, no Wi-Fi at all and the campsites are concrete, you are not able to stake your tents to keep it in place.

The camp was clean and well taken care of. No complaints there. This was my first time at the site. I was expecting at least 1 trail from the campsite, but there wasn't. Also I didn't like how I had to leave the park into Brownsville and drive around just to find a trail to walk. Houchins ferry felt more like a city campground and not like a federal national park

Camp sites are closer together than we personally prefer, but it was a nice campground in a beautiful area.
