We had a great week! Every time we go there, we enjoy a special treat at The Rustic Oak just down the road - we highly recommend the BlackBerry Cobbler!

Nicest camping reasonable prices

The campground is well maintained and the camp sites are spacious. The new bathrooms/shower house are very nice and clean. It is nice that the Black Jack Marina is close to the campground in case we decide to rent a boat for the day. It is also reassuring to see the park rangers drive through and give you a sense of security. We love staying at Ray Behrens!

The campground is nice and quiet. The kids love to ride their bikes around

Could be maintained better around campsites. The grass around some of the campsites was tall, and it looked unkept. Bevare of ticks!

Great place to stay

Overall, the park is well maintained (other than poison ivy in our campsite), it is quiet and peaceful, and the sites are well spread out. Upgrades should be made to run water and sewer to more sites. The water fill-up station is inconveniently located to where you have to check in, circle around to the exit to fill up, then circle back around through the entrance. I wish they would thin out just a few trees to provide a lake view. Need wifi or some type of cellular coverage in the case of an emergency; our truck broke down and we had to call for a tow, it took forever because there is barely cell coverage and kept dropping the call.

The lack of cell phone service and internet with our AT&T service will keep us from using RAY BEHRENS because we have complete service down the road at Frank Russel.

The campsite was beautiful as always, every year we come down and get this spot because of it's proximity to the shower house. The ticks were extra bad this year, but I know that's nothing that USACE can control.The shower house was pretty dismal for lack of a better word. It looked almost as if they stopped caring about the upkeep and maintenance on the old facility. The new cleaners barely cleaned anything, I walked in right after they had been there and it didn't even look clean and there were still bugs and cobwebs all over the shower stalls. The faucets were leaking for our whole trip and one was even loose from the sink itself. It just seems like the quality of upkeep has declined over the last several years which is really disappointing.We drove through the refurbished Frank Russell Campground during our visit and we will probably be staying there in the future, the sites look so much nicer and having more access to full hookups is great.

One of our favorite campgrounds. If you have ATT you wont have service.

We love Ray Behrens. Always clean and well maintained. The addition of several full hook-up spots to choose from is wonderful as well!

Site 113 - sewer dump was uphill of the camper. It was also blocked down the line since it wouldn't drain. I had to use the main dump station at the campground entrance.

Ray Behrens Campground and Rec Area has a lovely campground with three loops on the southeast shore of Mark Twain Lake near Perry, Missouri. This is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) campground and the tollbooth has limited hours for check-in but gates are not locked so you can setup on your reserved site and check in later. We stayed in the Little Blue Stem loop, Site 62, FHU. This site was fairly level, only needed 2 Lego blocks under the rear tires, but be sure and check the site description before booking because we saw some severe slopes in some of the other loops. All sites were paved and the picnic table area has the larger gravel which was great so we didnt carry it into the RV every time we entered. The bathhouse was new and really nice with six individual rooms instead of stalls. The roads were very well maintained so we took long walks or rode our e-bikes everywhere! There were not any real trails just a short path between LBLS and Deer Run and some steep trails down to the lake from a few campsites.The M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center is nearby and has great informational displays of the area and dam construction. We also took a 20 min drive to Florida, MO to see the Mark Twain Memorial Shrine where the house he was born in has been surrounded by a beautiful building and contains many original items from his life and various homes. Great 20-minute video about his life is available to watch. There is also a large eagles nest on the property which was amazing.This lake is very conveniently located about half way between Kansas City and St. Louis and has several other campgrounds that were of the same caliber. Frank Russell Rec Area is undergoing remodeling and has a nice Equestrian camp and brand new 50 amp pads. Highly recommend this Lake and any of the campgrounds for a quiet get away or an overnight stay on the way to somewhere else.

The campground was well kept up and the shower houses were clean and large. We made a day trip to Hannibal and went on the lake a few days. The only issue we had was our site was very unlevel right to left. So much so that even after placing boards under the right side our wheels were still off the ground and water would not drain properly.

Spacious spots. Off season, so not many other campers there.

Very nice campsite and the scenery was spectacular. Used the bike path and had a great time

The site was out of level side to side quite a bit. But someone had throwed their trash in the woods by site. Stopped a corp. maintenance to see about getting a camp ranger to look at for identification. He said they would take care of and had it cleaned up that day! Awesome job!

Very nice site. Full Hookups. Would have nice shade in Summer. Set up is fairly private.

Clean bathrooms. Shower house has been remodeled but now there is only one bathroom for the entire Little Bluestem Loop. A fair distance from the further out sites. We were disappointed that our favorite loop was already closed for the season in mid Oct.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
