Its a great little site with great views on the river side. The portajohns are always clean and well maintained. Access to the boat ramp is easy. The well water is good so long as you filter it - otherwise you will taste the iodine. Be aware of the trains - not a problem for us since we live nearby a railroad right of way, but if youre not expecting them you might be surprised. Be sure to look out for the sign advertising firewood delivery on your way in, shortly before you get to the campground. Reasonable priced and delivered quickly by a very nice local couple.

McCoy's Ferry was a wonderful treat after a long day of driving! The campsite was easy to reserve, even though it was last minute. The campground was quiet, clean and very picturesque on the river. The C & O Towpath trail was right there and a great place to walk. I'm adding this to my favorites! The restroom was also very clean and surprisingly well-kept despite it being right at the boatramp.

To my extreme disappointment this was not what I expected. I've been using this Campground since I was a young child and ive never had to deal w the toilet conditions we faced on our trip. The door markings showed the last cleaning was 8/15. There was no toilet paper in many of the stalls. I had go into town to purchase it. There were also stalls removed from the park which adds to the heavy usage, and helped to creat this mess along with the closure of the dock downtiver adding to park traffic. I will try again next season most likely due to my wonderful childhood memories I just hope there is more care of the park in the future, paying guests deserve good quality restrooms

Wonderful location on the river. In the future, I'll choose on of the sites that sits on the river. I took advantage of the locals selling firewood, which was a great advantage compared to others who were searching for dead wood in the small areas available. The boat launch was great for my kayak.

Bathrooms were disguising and looked like they havent been emptied in weeks. The train tracks are so close and extremely loud all through the night. I definitely wont be booking to stay here again because of this.

This is a pretty minimal campground! Someone has stolen the handle off the water supply, so there wasnt even running water. There were Porta Johns bear for restrooms and I didnt feel particularly secure leaving my personal items at the campsite when I went away.

Site is full of trees with many dead, heavy branches that are constantly falling. One of these branches (at least 100 lb) broke off and landed directly on our tent, destroying it (ripped fabric, broken supports). It was pure luck we had left just 5 minutes earlier. The Potomac River was too polluted to swim in, and although this was known to the administration at the time of booking, no warnings were posted on the booking site. The manual water pump barely worked on the first day and was completely removed by maintenance for the rest of our stay, leaving no usable water. Also, three occupied sites had people overdrinking, shouting, hitting their dog, wobbling through the campsite in the dark, and cursing. To sum up, not the kind of adventure I was looking for.

I could not get into the campground and I do not recall seeing a tunnel height warning when I signed up. It was evident others had not either as two showed up that clearly would not fit in the tunnel either.

Not great, but certainly not bad.

I love walking on the towpath looking at nature. My boyfriend and I love watching a cardinal fly to and from his truck every time we are there

If McCoy's Ferry campground is to be packed it out, please make sure to have some trash bags available to help with that idea or else responsible campers will spend a lot of time cleaning up micro trash, etc. overall very good experience at this campground site.

Had so much fun!

Plenty of space, clean picnic tables and portopot bathrooms. Nice breeze off the river and watching fishing boats. We booked two sites to have 2 cars but seems the 1 car 1 site rule is not enforced. The handle for the pump was not installed yet (end of March) bring extra water. Trains run all hours across the river and next to the walking/biking path. Nice site, would not return.

Great site to explore C&O - only issue are unauthorized campers/vehicles using the area in low season. Multiple (must likely local folks) cars/pick-ups daily and late into the evening park and sit in their vehicles. Weird. Makes you uneasy leaving for the day and sleeping at night.

Only ones there on a Saturday night in February. Port-a-potties super clean. Quiet and peaceful (though the occasional train across the river). Weve been here in summer and winter and really enjoy it. Having the C&O right there is wonderful for a walk or run. Its a beautiful stretch.

Beautiful location and very nice flat sites. clean portapotty. easy to park. river is right there. Be mindful of the tunnel height is a maximum of 10'3" with curved sides . our T@B400 trailer is 9' and it just fit through with inches to spare! Could hear the trains, didnt bother us in a trailer.

Port a pottys SPOTLESS and well maintained. Have noticed there is at least ONCE a Ranger patrol car going through the site. Excellent location for a variety of adventures.

It's not often you get to sleep next to the Potomac River. It's hard to beat drinking coffee while watching the river flow by. The trains can be a bit noisy, but it wasn't too bad.

Great place for a camp out with friends.

Great small campground with easy access to the C&O canal towpath. Campground and pit toilets were pretty clean. Compared to prior visits in past years, the place has become a nighttime party hangout for locals, though, thankfully, they left before midnight. Some campers ignore the 10pm quiet hours, and keep their loud conversations going until later, though, again, quieting down before midnight. These same folks also had four vehicles, three tents, and a dozen people staying at one campsite. I guess the campground rules are just suggestions if not enforced by the campground hosts. I love this campground, but will only be going back if I can avoid staying there on a Friday or Saturday night.

A pretty much isolated location so be prepared. The location itself was very wonderful as it was our first visit. Other campers were pretty much hospitable and respectful of space. Areas pretty laid out & clean. Saw rangers on patrol each day during visit and they were hospitable as well. We had a very good experience even with the one storm that passed through.
@DouglasGF4FB23 · Camped on Aug 27, 2024 at Campsite #5
The views and layout were good, the biggest problem was the fact the train in right above you and comes several times a night. My wife's anxiety was horrible after they would wake her from a deep sleep. Also of note the ranger was very polite and helpful.

Nice site on the river with nice views. No camp host or firewood on site. Pit toilet in the parking lot by the boat ramp. Park rangers drove through a couple times. There was a bit of noise in the evening from people on the river.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
