The area was beautiful and peaceful. Restrooms were clean. Totally enjoyed our time there.

Very quiet. Did some fishing. Pretty view of the Potomac river. Large campsites. Clean.

The Campground was very nice. It is a bit longer walk to the site than we had expected. We arrived after dark and it took us a while to locate the site as there are no signs directing you to the site.

Perfect spot for getting on to ride the C&O for 2 days.

We've been here twice this fall with our 18' travel trailer; once in site #2, most recently in site #1. We've enjoyed both experiences, and plan to be back next year. The sites are definitely small: in both cases, after parking the trailer at the back of the site, we had to put our car in crosswise in front. Our 9' tall trailer fits through the rail trail overpass with no problem, so we don't have to take the alternate route to get to the campground (which is 1.5 lanes wide at best).You can't beat the location for bicycling and paddling. And in our experience, it's been very quiet at overnight (although there was noise coming from downriver when we stayed in September). It's also very clean (including during the shutdown): the people who stay here seem to take "pack-in, pack-out" seriously.The one drawback is the pump: it takes a long time for any water to come out, and takes a lot of pumping to fill even a small bucket. We've seen several people give up after trying the handle a few times without result. Can't comment on the water that comes out of the pump; we just used it to douse our campfire.As for campfires: Bill's Place (around the corner) may or may not have firewood. When we were there in September they said they were out; we didn't check in October. They directed us to the intersection of Mud Lick Road and Orleans Road, which is maybe a mile south of I-68. There's a pallet of firewood there for $10 a bag, with payment on the honor system. The wood was dry, and a mix of varieties: one time it was mostly hardwoods, one time mostly pine. Each bag was enough for a three-hour fire.

Cancelled due to water contamination. No DNR warnings or on your site for Potomac River. Found out by contacting the upper Potomac River keeper.

Only camper, clean and neat campsites, vault toilets were clean and obviously, not over used. Heavy rains caused creek and Potomac to be near flood stage! Was spectacular to view

This is a nice site, with a direct path to the creek and river. However, because there's a direct path to the creek and river, other people think it's okay to walk through the site, which is incredibly rude and disrespectful. It's also next to the restrooms, so depending on how the wind blows, can be a bit aromatic.

Pretty nice view of the river (it's definitely a river not a creek). Campsites are small and close together. Water pump is very chemically treated, smells like a boys lockers room. There is a train that goes by just about every 2 hours honking it's horn multiple times , even in the night. It's a beautiful site for those who live to bike because there is access to the bike trail right by the camp. Expect to pack out trash, and I'm not sure how swimming would be because the river looked very murky.

Tried to cancel my reservation, and the system failed to work, even though the rules said I could and I tried in the specified time. Waisted my money.

Unable to find in the dark- poor lighting, poor signage. We tried twice and after ending up going up a dangerous hill in attempt to find it a 3rd time, and popping a hole our RV tire on the way down based on total darkness, we had to give up going there

There was a party is the campground that was drinking and BLASTING music. There was another party that arrived and left without setting up, Im assuming due to the loud music. Since I was the only other party in the campground, I was not comfortable asking them to turn down the music or calling the park service, since I would have still been alone with the loud party after anyone sent to mediate the situation left. Additionally, the handle was off the pump for the campground. While the online info for the campground does state that water may be unavailable, it inconvenient for someone traveling by bike.

Best river campground on the Potomac

We didnt know until we arrived that it was bike week. We are frequent campers and came from NC to paddle the Potomac. The pit toilets were disgusting and full. The only way we could continue our stay was to walk over to the walk-in campsite portajohn. On Sunday, we were awaken by a lady throwing up outside her camper. Someone else had thrown their uneaten eggs, sausage and hotdogs on the edge of their campsite. I know there are budget shortages, but there needs to be more cleaning of the pit toilets and a trash bin during the busy summer months. There needs to be enough oversight to offer safe hygiene. We were disappointed.

Overly lively nightlife for an escape into the woods. Prepare for bugs too.

The pictures for this campsite are old and outdated. It's not a good representation of camp site or grounds at all. There is no parking for the group site close to the site. It's on the other side of the campground. The group site isn't marked or visible from the campgrounds. You have to pack in and pack out in the middle of people's camp site if there is a spot available for you to do so. Otherwise it's a 700ft or more walk from vehicle to site. The water is gorgeous! It's super clear and kid friendly(mostly shallow waters). Steep walk down to the water. There is a porta John that was surprisingly well maintained considering. Otherwise it's the bare minimum primitive camping.

Bills near the camp was very helpful. The original weather report was low to mid 90s. Bills was a refuge for more pounds of ice and gallons of water. The camp site is barebones. The toilets are disinfected regularly. The water is at a pump, iodinated, and recommended to be boiled before consuming. You must carry out your trash. Lots of trail bikers. Simple hike. Creek is near by.

We selected a great campsite but considered it expensive for being a primitive campground. Mostly quiet no idiots with radios despite being a holiday weekend. Very busy boat ramp nearby, but the river was clean and refreshing after a hot humid bike ride. The Little Orleans Campground campstore was within a mile and was welcome for ice cream and last minute necessities. Will definitely be back.

Great view of the river and launching area. Fairly level area for tent. Far enough away from the bathrooms but not too far.
No two trees close enough together for hammock.
Almost no signal for Verizon. I heard TMobile was pretty good.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
