It is an almost forgotten campground, far in the corner from the main Park. About an hour drive from Manzanita Lake, 20min on dirt road. Not populated. Camp sites are well separated from one another. The bathrooms have no light.

Campground was clean and located near lots of trails. Cinder cone is a very steep hike but a great view, highly recommend for active individuals. Hiking around the lake is also gorgeous but must be attentive and cautious as we saw multiple bears and cubs on the trails.

The area is so nice, but we wont ever be back. The inability to bring dogs on the hiking trails, or even in the lake prevents us from doing just about anything besides sitting at the campsite. I am blown away a rule like this even exists and I truly dont understand the purpose of it, so we wont be back.

Great Lake. Great campground. Gravel road to get in FYI.

Totally worth the 6 mile gravel road drive to get there. Very calm and peaceful area. Some great hikes nearby. The bathroom was clean. Many of the sites are sloped (up, down, side). I was in B05 and it was definitely sloped up from the entry but had a fairly level area near the top for my 20' travel trailer. Not too much trouble to get it leveled. I am fully self contained so it worked out perfect for me to be several days without amenities. I was actually surprised to find flush toilets and potable water. I was expecting pit toilets only. The rangers came by daily to pick up trash and the bear box at the site gave us a safe place to store extrea coolers and such. The site was spacious and felt like we were in a fairy circle of tall trees while we sat around the campfire. I definitely want to return to this area and spend more time checking out the entire park. Very beautiful and interesting. I live very close to Yosemite and this was a nice change from the hoards of people. We loved paddle boarding around the lake in the clean, calm water. This will be a favorite on my list of camping destinations.

The campground was very good. Unfortunately, I was towing my 35 fifth wheel and the 6 mile long NF dirt road was horrible. Id never do it again.

I was having a family trip and reserved 5 sites next to each other. I was emailed twice a reminder and my wife called the week of the trip to confirm everything was good to go, she was told everything is good to go. With no warning the 6 mile road leading into the campgrounds is all washboard. After that I pull up to my sites and 2 of 5 are closed and moved down a ways. No call, text or email about that. We were there for 4 days. After the first day, we abandon the 3 sites at the top of the hill and moved everyone on to the 2 sites. No one we could call. No camp host. Its a shame the management of this campground is so bad. Because its a pretty place. Not sure if its incompetence or indifference because if you moved 2 sites and my name is on 5, that person should have moved all 5. At bare minimum, call or text or email me to tell me what is happening. Never coming back here.

After driving for 4 hrs, we reach the unpaved road to the campground. What no one said it was 7 miles of washboard road. It was so bad I could only go about 10pm the entire time. Finally reach the campground and drive up to the sites I reserved a month in advanced and 2 of the 5 have yellow caution tape. They moved the 2 sites about 10 sites away. No email or text or call. They emailed us twice to remind us about the reservation and my wife called them to confirm everything the week of, and they said everything was good to go. I reserved 5 sites together because we had family coming. 3 of our kids and 8 grandchildren, 2 sets of grandparents and a brother in law all from 3 different states. So after about a day of back and forth, cause there was a small hill between the 3 sites at the top and the 2 at the bottom. We abandoned the 3 sites and all stayed on the 2 sites because they were bigger. No one to explain, no camp host. First and last time there. Wasted money and time.

Beautiful campground and terrific lake etc. it's a shame loose dogs are in the lake everyday and no law enforcement ( Rangers) in the area to enforce leash and keeping the dogs in the picnic area. It's not only a National Park but also a Wilderness area. The lack of respect for the Park is beyond belief.Please do what you can to have a stronger presence at Butte Lake.

great site, road and lower campsites flooded in an hour of heavy rain

We stayed in site B6 with ourSprinter and Alto trailer. It was pretty flat and mostly shaded but we did use an awning due to the heat (low 90s in July). We had a major hailstorm (1hour) and downpour for 3 hours but no major damage.

Great quiet NP campground off the beaten path. Clean bathrooms and convenient dish washing area. It will be good when the drinking water located at the Cinder Cone Trailhead is repaired, but that was the only negative of my time there. Highly recommend.
@Christina50083 · Camped on Jun 29, 2025 at Campsite #B7
The lake is pristine with a beautiful backdrop of the mountains. The hike through the lava fields to the cinder cone volcano is definitely worth it! Well maintained campground, sites easily marked and flushing toilets. The 6 mile dirt road is a bit daunting, with all the washboard ruts, and dust.

Absolutely breathtaking. The lake was amazing. The campground was very nice. We will definitely go back. There is not cell service in most of the park so be prepared for that.

Hike to the Cinder Cone is a must do as is kayaking Butte Lake. The campsites are largethe only issue we had was driving 6 miles on a dit road to get to the campsite.

large, spacious campsites but no privacy between sites

Well taken care of good amenities in the way of bathrooms, potable water, etc. Large campground but did not feel overly crowded. Would certainly recommend a visit if traveling through Lassen.

Serene atmosphere, scenic hikes and flushing toilets made it a worthwhile camping experience.

Love this campground. It is quiet and mellow. Lots of hiking trails that you can walk to. On this trip I shared a turnout parking area with the camper next to me. Next time I would try and find a site that had its own. It was fine. Just a little close.

This campsite is off the beaten path. Theres a a pretty rough gravel (washboard) road for several miles to get there. Believe it or not, going 30mph (speed limit) makes it feel smoother than slower speeds. Once youre there, its a nice spot to camp other than pesky mosquitoes at sunset and early morning while we were there. The bathrooms were some of the best weve experienced camping. Cinder Cone is amazing, definitely dont miss out on that!

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
