The road into the campground is very rough and you must drive very slow that is why gave it three stars. The campsites are nice. Lassen Volcanic National Park is close and we enjoyed a hike to Kings creek falls and make sure you take the cascade trail back which is pretty strenuous but worth it. We purchased the $5 cd that explains different things in the park as you drive through, well worth the money.

Even though the water level was lower this year due to the drought, Butte Lake and its surrounding areas were still gorgeous! The campsites were nice and spacious, and though the restrooms were not able to be open during our stay, there were still enough amenities that we managed a very enjoyable trip. The staff were incredibly nice and I had a wonderful conversation with one of the rangers about the birds in the area, as well about Cinder Cone and our trip. I would highly reccomend making the hike up Cinder Cone; as daunting as it may seem at first, making it to the top is incredibly rewarding. The inside of the volcano as well as the amazing view of Lassen makes it so worth the effort and it was our favorite part about the stay!

The campground is super quiet in the middle of the forest very close to a lake were you can swim, use a paddle or a kayak. The trail nearby is fabulous. All the camp site have a big table with fire pit, the ground was mainly flat.Very good I recommend.

This was my third trip to the eastern side of Lassen Volcanic NP. The landscape is unlike any other in the state, and the views are jaw dropping, especially if you climb the cinder cone! Our next trip, we plan to kayak the lake, one of the prettiest I've seen since it is a brilliant blue and wraps around lava beds.
