Wasn't prepared for the drive into the campground but did the gravel road couple of times while we were there and got more and more comfortable. Note that this was a dry campsite. No portable water around. Butte lake is right there though. Right at the start of cinder cone hike.

Loved it. Group campsites were noisy til 10, but quiet after that. Hikes were great, camp sites were clean, toilets were as clean as they could be for the weekend . Who owns that washboard road into the camp!! Thats ridiculous! But we all go slow, dont we? Enjoyed by all in my group.

Great quiet NP campground off the beaten path. Clean bathrooms and convenient dish washing area. It will be good when the drinking water located at the Cinder Cone Trailhead is repaired, but that was the only negative of my time there. Highly recommend.

We stayed at this campground about 2 weeks ago so we could explore the cinder cone and many beautiful trails out in the backcountry. The campground has flush toilets (and pit toilets) as well as water spigots for filling bottles and a wash station with sink so you can wash your dishes. The road getting to the campground is a packed dirt road that is pretty good and should be accessible to most vehicles. Each campsite has a generous parking area and there are plenty of trash cans around. The only real downside to this campground (and reason for 3 stars) is that the campsites are not level at all. Our site was on a hillside and the heavy concrete picnic table was so slanted, you couldnt boil water on a camp stove without the pot sliding off the burner! This made it hard to find a level spot to pitch a tent as well and probably would have been challenging for a RV to set up. Other than the hilly campsites, it is a nice campground with good amenities and of course, easy accessibility to trails and the lake.

This is an excellent campground. Its quiet and tucked away, but gravel road is still drive-able with a non 4WD car. We reserved a site but there were walk-in sites available on a Tuesday afternoon (although they did come close to full). Bathrooms are clean and well-maintained. There was no ranger and no camp host, so youre on your own for troubleshooting. The lake is beautiful and for this trip, it wasnt a yuck muddy bottom or anything. Great swim spots. Cinder Cone and some other trails are close by and 100% worth doing. We saw deer but didnt have bear trouble. We collected some small wood pieces to go with what we brought and had plenty for fire. On your way out, stop the the Subway Cave Lava Tube before seeing the rest of larger Lassen. Its a creepy fun 1/3 mile loop that is friendly for all hiking levels, and its just plain fun to do. I will be back for sure!

A great campground next to the stunning Butte Lake! Definitely hike the cinder cone.
