Love the location and spot are decently, big and not near people. The only thing is that the road to get into the campground is gravel for about 15 minutes and it was unknown to us till we got there. So I recommend getting there before it gets dark. This road is also not marked well so make sure you have your gps downloaded.

A really nice campground. The only thing that would have made our stay better is prohibiting camp fires.

This campsite backs up almost directly on top of the site on the other side of the road. They practically share a firepit, SUPER close together. Not a great choice in sites.

The road to the site is ARDUOUS, and with all the $$ that the national parks make in donations, they could spend a little to make the road simply dirt, and not hard crazy gravel and all though we saw our fair share of honda civics and Toyota Camry's, I highly recommend 4WD. My trailer rattled apart in several places just from the trip in and out. However, once there, this was an AMAZING camp site. Due to it being off the beaten path, it was very quiet and peaceful since all the party animals head to the easy access sites. It's quite a far drive from the park entrance, but it is also at the Cinder Cone trailhead and on a beautiful lake with a lava flow like no other. We will DEFINITELY be back.

Climbing the "Cinder Cone" was a great experience for our grandchildren. The rough road ends up being a plus because it reduces the number of campers which adds to the experience. The camp spaces are mostly spacious. There are several hike options that offer many different experiences.

Lovely campground, super helpful and friendly ranger, amazing hiking to the top of Cinder cone, short walk to the lake to refresh from the heat, stargazing, peace!!
