Amazing views and great campground next the mountains. Very small site that barely fit my teardrop and telluride, but did fit

Beautiful area!! easy to find (we downloaded offline google maps). Very friendly host. Vault toilet well kept and clean. Water spigot and firewood available. Big bear box. Nice to hear the creek, very relaxing. We stayed at #12, nice tree for shade and can fit 2 tents. Most campsites can only park 1 car. Easy access to trails and town.

Stayed at site 17 right on the river. Absolutely beautiful and fortunately just 3 other campers there. Last day people started arriving for the long weekend and many had very large rigs. Caught (and released) 4 fish. I love how even at my old age its a nice walk to the lake. Everything was very clean including the bathrooms. Campground host Dave was super helpful and he had great conversation.

Such a marvelous campground! We didnt expect these close views to the mountains. The spots were different, some a bit uneven, but nonetheless ok!The Alabama hills are a must: so many rocks, so little people!

Literally one of my favorite places. The view alone is enough to keep bringing me back.

Every site has a great view of Whitney. Some sites are pretty flat. Others have a bit of an incline. Great tables and fire pits. Very clean outhouses. Lots of trash receptacles. I enjoyed the sound of the nearby creek and I was so happy to see a blue heron perched on a rock looking for fish.

Amazing campground with amazing views. Cant ask for much more than having Whitney as the backdrop to your camp. Camp host was very nice and campground was well kept. Hope to be back soon!

Our campsite was clean and spacious. Situated just below Lone Pine Peak, we got stunning sunrise and sunset views from the convenience of our picnic benches. Toilets were also clean considering.

Sept 8, 2024 : The good: Campground host very nice and friendly; clean restrooms (pit toilet) and sites were clean. The bad: clearly last few years of bad weather has taken its toll on the area. Regardless sites are not level but rather extremely un level. This is booth for the parking area and tent locations. Sites are close together. The worst: comprehensive failure to clearly communicate that access should be via Lubken canyon road due to damage to Whitney portal road. The one large sign on 395 scrolls so slow you will only see at best one line of info. The information on line indicated to still take the same exit. If approaching from south use waze as that will advise lubken canyon road. It is a shame that this camping area is in such a horrible state. Funding clearly is being redirected.

It was nice small spot parking very small fits a sedan. If booking this site recommend booking site 17 as well makes a bigger camp area. Plenty of space for 4 people and a dog. Rushing river sounds lulls you to sleep. River closer than on map.

We had a great spot! Not level by any means but the camp host was great! We felt safe and the rules were posted and reasonable. Great view of Mount Whitney! Definitely will go back!

Description says no water but there was water there, however camp host did not know if it was potable or not, simply said "well, I drink it." Close to Whitney Portal, not busy when we camped in late august which made it a great spot for before and after hiking Whitney.

Nice campground and a great option for accessing the Whitney Portal. We were in site 12 and it was spacious and had room for several tents. There was a very large tree that provided shade throughout the day. Sites are well spaced for privacy with intervening vegetation. A much quieter and private experience than camping at the Whitney Portal Campground. Bathrooms clean and well stocked. There is potable water at the campground even though the reservation listing said no water. Camp host was friendly hand helpful.

Beautiful views but neighbors are loud into the night and none of the toilets lock (tho they are clean) so someone could walk in on you at any moment

Wow, great spot, close to Mt Whitney trail

This is a nice little CG as an alternative to Whitney Portal. Except in summer it's too hot. But I guess if you have a self contained rig with AC (which I don't) that's not an issue. It would be nice if there was more shade for those hot months. Alot of the big trees that were providing shade have died & have fallen or been cut down. Maybe the FS could plant replacements or construct shade structures, like I see in other very warm areas... This poor CG gets pretty roughed up with flash flooding & has been closed for repairs a good portion of the last couple of yrs. Some of the site pavement is in bad shape & could use some repair/replacement...

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
